While that's mostly true, I think that's the case with most artists as well. There's a buzz about the first single from an upcoming album that just isn't there for subsequent singles. However, there are more counterexamples:

Diamonds and Pearls ("Cream")
Symbol ("7")

Isn't that the case with most pop music? The first single is usually the most "chartable" song, then 2nd would be the next best, 3rd is usually a slower song...

Of course, after Prince dumped WB, that all went to hell and we get "Betcha By Golly Wow" as a leadoff single. Tsk tsk.
