Better Late, Than Never.

In an interview before the release of LotusFlow3r, Prince said that he had used advanced recording techniques and experimented with pro tools.

I never really had the time to read the vast majority of fan reviews here so, was it noticeable that he used these techniques and experimented?

Also, how does it stand up production wise. Does it compare with his best work and/or what's out there? ... Is it worthy of a Grammy Nomination?

Not that such a nomination necessarily means that much these days ...

I'm not a musican, singer or song writer, hence my post. I wouldn't know what to listen for.

What is your opinion, regarding my questions?

I don't care if Prince uses Pro Tools, GarageBand or analog multi-track tape, as long as he puts a quality product on the market. Of course, quality is in in the ear-hole of the beholder.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

True. It doesn't really matter, if I don't know what to listen for.

I just wondered what the musicans here thought of the technical side, from this latest offering.

I know he's not cutting edge anymore so, maybe those comments he made were a marketing ploy.

GarageBand is awesome. I use it for my Music. I could probably land a copy of ProTools, but I don't need it. I can do whatever I need to in Garageband for now.

I wouldn't necessarily say the use of Pro Tools could be construed as a marketing ploy. I think that, generally speaking, the buying public doesn't care about production techniques. Most want a funky beat that they can bug out to.

You probably read the same interview where Prince had to be talked into using the software by Terry Lewis. I gleaned that there was some trepidation on P's part where he worried it could become a crutch.

Prince has been using Pro Tools since at least the turn of the century. Probably long before that. He's always mixed new technology with old. I was in Studio A of Paisley Park in 2000, and there was a very large, well worn Pro Tools manual on the mixing console.

Does his latest CD set have a less organic sound than past efforts? I don't think so. Prince's claim to fame is his studio proficiency. He's always had a very electronic sound because it's faster to record that way. One can argue that his music has been watered down since his heyday, but I wouldn't blame his latest software.

I was just going from memory but, that (Terry Lewis) does sound familiar.

Around about the same time, it was mentioned here that Radiohead have probably taken that particular piece of technology as far as it can be taken ...

Good answer too.

Absolutely not, Prince 1978-1995 was a completely different artist than the Prince of 1996-2009,

to me the LF disc contains a more simple sound almost "live" sounding, like the "band sound" of 1 of his aftershows, I would compare the sound to albums like Chaos & Disorder (simple rock sound), and The Rainbow Children (experimental jazzy-rock),

MPLSound should be a return to the famous dynamic sound from the 1980s, but doesn't live up to that imo. It sounds a bit "outwashed" and pale.

just imo. - that's just what my ears tells me, wink

the LF package is good but does not compare with the classics.

a serious question... with all these programs and equipment...

do people finally get up to using 100% of all the features.

coz i got some old cheap stuff that and i'm still not at even
30% of what it all seems to be able to do

Do people know the people that invest in this sort of tech

wiki ProTools i didnt find it that helpful..

I bet everyone has got a fairlight and they just dont wanna say it....
