We're thinking that these will be remastered and released later this year in Japan.

These Japanese paper sleeve CDs are excellent.They're packaged to look like miniature vinyl albums,with the original artwork.I just received the Raydio CDs I ordered and I like it alot.They're fun to collect.

Cool. I've considered getting those. I might get them pretty soon.

that's what I'm saying. Once he owns the masters, I doubt he'd release rerecordings.

I think these albums are fine just the way they are. Remastering them would not work like you might think. What sounds fine as a sample flute sound in the original composition might end up sounding like a tinny 80s keyboard if remastered.

Are those really remasters and not just reissues?

They are not remastered. They just use a different method to encase the data layer. The Prince SHM releases are Redbook on the data layer and have no audio enhancements. Their big selling point is a "clearer" plastic for less laser scatter. The artwork is supposed to be nice though.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

actually, he can't do that because he doesn't have the power.

If Prince said he wanted to do it, and came to Warner Bros. Records, then the company executives or (CEO or Chairman of Warner Bros. Co.) would say likely

say 'no' at this time, because it was not the 'right timing' or the 'industry

isn't playing that kind of music', or it's not 'time to put out that kind of celebration', and it will less likely to have equal sales or income for the company and for Prince.

(Don't forget awful industry promoting, and terrible decline in CD sales.) but...

GUESS WHAT
. . .

PRINCE, WOULD LOVE TO REMASTER ALL HIS SOUNDS AND SONGS!!!! biggrin Look at this piece of interview from 2004!

Don't ask Him, ask Warner Bros. Records! Write a petition to them. NOT PRINCE! Write to them! biggrin

=====

ROCKY MOUNTAIN INTERVIEW 2004:

:::::

Prince has made a tentative peace with Warner Bros.; there are rumors of a special edition of Purple Rain in the works. That may be merely wishful thinking; the new DVD of Purple Rain comes out Tuesday with no Prince involvement and thus no substantial upgrade.

An overhaul of his catalog is needed. Warner slapped substandard copies of his music onto CD years ago and has never upgraded them. Prince's best album, 1987's Sign O' the Times, sounds absolutely awful, with fluctuating volume levels and passable but muddy sound. Prince leaps to his feet in agreement when these issues are mentioned.

"Tell them that! We need to bring it up to the industry standard!"

He'd love to see remastered and expanded versions of his work and surround-sound versions of his classics, but with the master tapes in Warner's hands, he can't make that happen. "I can go re-record it and put it out - but should I have to?"

I highly doubt that. We aren't talking about remixing or re-recording the albums. We're merely wanting these masterpieces to be remastered for cd issue because the originals are not that great.

Have you ever bought an original issue cd from the 80s and a remastered version from the 90s or 00s to compare?

WB would love to do it. It's Prince that would be holding it up. Or, to be fair, their continued impasse.

I think we'd all be a lot happier with the end result if Prince just agreed to let them do it and kept his grubby mitts off of them.

The last person in the world that knows what's best for Prince's legacy and music is Prince. Sad but true.

Nope. He hates his fans, AND if he remastered the old stuff, he'd edit the shit out of it....LITERALLY. That'd make things like Dirty Mind a cassingle at best. He'd resing "Sexuality" as "Spirituality" on the Controversy album, and can you imagine the political hubbub that "Ronnie Talk 2 Russia" would become? "Do Me, Baby" would become "Save Me, Jesus". There's a place for everything, but Prince remastering the old shit ain't it.

I believe we would have seen rerecordings if he truly was embarrased by his past. But nope. The late 90's rerecordings remain tucked away in the Vault and his past remains.
