FOREVER CAMILLE

“If I was Ur Girlfriend”, said Camille.

Indeed.

Of all of Prince’s conceptual figures in his vast arsenal of music, Camille stands out in Prince’s mythos of heroes and villains of right and wrong, good and bad, girl and boy, in ways Spooky Electric, Anna Stesia, Banished Ones, and Elektra never could.
Camille, you see is the one who was there when his tastes in subject matter went from merely perverse to a level of perversion that was balanced out by maturity and a deeper sense of personal relationships.
Don’t let the dialogue at the end of “If I was Ur Girlfriend” fool you--Prince is more than interested in having himself a Vag-juice cocktail while trying to picture what silence looks like. Prince is trying to understand the very fundamental nature of the relationship with the owner of that pussy Juice (Susanna Melvoin in this case) to begin with!

After years of single-handedly building a musical empire for himself, Prince erected his mythological Paisley Park empire -- a place where race, sexual orientation, age, religion..none of it matters. All is forgiven. All are happy. A place where everyone can join in the joy. And smack dab in the center of Club Hedonism MPLS was it’s newly crowned Princess, Camille.

Some argue that Camille was not female. That the Symbol years was an expression of his Camille nature taking the drivers seat. But whether Camille was female or not, one thing is for certain--Camille was a way for him to touch his feminine nature and express it without having to come all out and say, “Lawd, I am sooooo gay yall.”
She was his ‘coming out’ without coming out. She was his gay without ‘gay’.

She was his vagina….. and his brain.
Camille’s shameless introspection and pondering over female nature is what makes him/her so intriguing and everlasting. She said the things many men want to say. She thought the thoughts many men dare not. She gave expression to a shy and reclusive man who was bursting with creativity and ideas. She will forever be his religion and Muse in ways his faith was not.

Styx will have Mr. Roboto. Michael Jackson will have Mr. Bubbles. But Prince will alway shave Camille.

I realise it's a simple misplaced "space", but...

That looks like Bria in the Tavis interview too.

I often think that if Camille had actually been released, it would probably be my favorite Prince album ever.

I have always felt that!! I even feel that way about his proteges. They are just conduits for what he won't/ can't sing himself... He lives vicariously through their vaginas. nod big grin

So is Camille the voice behind Funk and Dance 4 Me? Or has he dropped the concept altogether but not the 'sound' ?

frankly, I think people take the "concept" of it a little bit too far. it was a gimmick he cobbled together into a concept for an album that didn't get released. he did other songs with the same gimmick around the same time (and since) that i'd classify as "Camille" recordings, though others would insist they are not since they didn't get a "Camille" credit in the liner notes. who's to say that on the original "Crystal Ball" liner notes from 1987 that the title track wouldn't have gotten a "Camille" credit? or the 3rd version of "Witness 4 The Prosecution" etc.

It's a beautiful picture. The words of wisdom spewing forth from Camille's lips nullify the heroine in Whinenhouse's body. no no no!

I don't recall mentioning pussy juice all that often. confuse
