#1 impatient with getting music out
#2 releasing vault music for later album in a bad way ie Tick Tick Bang, Old Friends 4 Sale #3 dominating protege groups such as the Time, #4 changing sound/image too drastically from PR - ATWIAD #4a not releasing Roadhouse Garden #5 not including the Revolution in musical sets for Under the Cherry Moon or having other band members in the movie here and there #6 disbanding the Revolution & not releasing Dream Factory #7 putting the 3 male dancers front stage in front of BrownMark #8 not pulling the Family in during the movie shooting...they should have been in France doing shows #9 releasing Jill Jones album too late (was she on tour during Parade?) #10 not touring the US for Sign of the Times #11 not releasing the Black album (to me these are drastic mistakes that brought about the so so Prince of the 90's and 2000's) #12 trying to do a Purple Rain 2 via Graffiti Bridge and even worse shooting it all in a studio

not doing mtv unplugged as was promoted he would
start per4ming Prince songs when he was thus the gold experience up until the release of emancipation still remains my favorite era of prince 2 this very day divorcing mayte the promoting of his latest albums ..2 weeks doesn't cut it cousin!! man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

The biggest mistake Prince could ever make is listening to people in this thread.
The biggest mistake Prince could make is not doing whatever the fuck he wants to do. Most of these "mistakes" are just superficial anyway. People really need to get over the whole Larry Graham/Jehovah's Witness thing. JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

Releasing "The Hits" CDs in 1993.
It killed Prince's momentum in the nineties. The Come / One Word Title songs should have come out in 1993. By 1994 and 1995 the Come/Gold material was old news. Directing himself in Under The Cherry Moon. Prince had good people in his movie and the film would have fared better under another director's vision. UTCM was just silly. I still love the music but never watch the movie. Most of The Rap Music. - Prince does not write rap music well. D&P has some good hits on it (Cream, D&P) & Gett Off was nasty like Prince used to be in his early days. I just thought the rap just did not work well with the music. And maybe divorcing Mayte was a mistake. I always thought it was sad they could not have held on to each other and survived. I thought Prince wrote some of his best music when Mayte was in his life. Sometimes you hear a few snippets of that music live now but mostly it seems erased, maybe it is painful for Prince to revisit that time, and I can understand that.

GF makes me do all those things too. I absolutely love when Morris's boys are holding him back and Prince says that you wanna battle me bit I cringe everytime I see that. It's not supposed to be funny but it is. For some reason it makes me think of a Ben Stiller skit. [Edited 6/1/09 17:17pm] Don't take life too seriously, noone gets out alive.

There was indeed a tour, but it never made its way to the states.I remember in the late summer/fall of '87,there was ALOT of buzz/speculation here in the States that Prince would be touring soon. There was alot of momentum with the SOTT album, which was experiencing a second life after (briefly) tumbling down the charts when "IIWYG" was the single. But instead of a proper US tour,we got the SOTT concert film instead. It was amazing, but nothing takes the place of a real tour.

I do agree that,by the time 'TGE' was finally released in late 1995,the music was old news. The majority of those songs had been circulating among fans for a year already.Even Prince was bored with that album,at that point.

Harlepolis said:[quote]-His departure from The Revolution wasn't the mistake,,,it was surrounding himself with those opportunist "yes men" that was the mistake.
quote] [Although many of the musicians Prince would employ in the future were more accomplished instrumentalists than Wendy, Lisa, Brown, and Rivkin, the creative triumphs of the Revolution illustrate the axiom that in pop & rock music, passion counts for more than musical chops. As musicians (and people), Wendy & Lisa were playful, open- minded, and opinionated - qualities that would be missing in many of Prince's future band members, notwithstanding their technical proficiency. "The songs we did with Wendy and Lisa," Eric Leeds noted, "included some of the most wonderful stuff we ever did."]

Letting Mazarrati sink into mundanity.
Making Sheila E look like him. She got prettier over the years thank goodness. Not paying Vanity what she wanted for the role in Purple Rain. I love Apples but y'all know it would have been a different flick if sexy take no shit Vanity was playing the part.

I totally agree, Vanity would have added some serious chemistry to a movie that was already filled with, cause Prince had just about everyone he knew personally in that movie. Have U heard Vanity 6 Sex Shooter? I think that version compared to Apollonia 6 version is an example of how different the movie would have felt with Vanity in it Apollonia had a very 'innocent' presence to the movie
