leno is an asskisser. he's the comedic/broadcast equivalent of hospital cafeteria applesauce. of course prince would like that. Agreed...I've always preferred Dave to Jay...to me, Jay just isn't funny. I cannot believe Conan inherited The Tonight Show; I can't even stomach 3 minutes of him, let alone an hour! I wish Craig Kilborn was still on TV...loved him! https://www.youtube.com/@PurpleKnightsPodcast

Yeah, it's Prince, Kirk, Sonny, Michael, etc. all trying to renegotiate his deal throughout the video. He even takes a copy of the 1999 album and throws it up against the wall and breaks it. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Who is Paul Shafer?
Some one please tell me because I really don't know. I love a Man who:

Indeed, Paul has played on SO many records in the past. Even the Late Show drummer, Anton Fig, played (secretly at the time) on some KISS records because their own drummer was m.i.a.

That's not Paul Shafer in that picture.
That's Renato Nato with a shaved head. Or Doctor Octopus.

I remember when he was edgier, so to speak, and I didn't care for him too much. I also saw the show with Joaquin Phoenix and it was a bit strange and seemed to annoy Dave and he did make jokes about it. I laughed through the entire segment, but over the past few years Dave seemed to have calmed down a bit. I have noticed that Dave has sort of a short temper. But since "none" of us can speak for Prince, but only "speculate", and at least knowing how Prince is "unpredictable", you just never know, like I said, Dave may challenge him to come on his show, although it doesn't mean P will accept, but controversy always sells. I'm wondering if Dave will make any comments in reference to what Prince wrote to Jay though. [Edited 5/29/09 14:08pm]

[Edited 5/29/09 14:08pm] dave was a comedic tension breaker to make new art seem palatable to the mainstream, and that was a good thing. i remember when grace jones was on there plugging her movie "vamp" and they played a clip of her avant garde dance scene where she's dressed in the keith haring make-up...right in the middle of the clip, you hear dave say "okay, that's about enough of that nonsense" and he stopped the clip, and grace jones just laughed and laughed. stuff like that makes people feel okay about stuff that's beyond the vanilla, because it shows that it's okay to laugh at weird stuff yet appreciate it too. and he wasn't afraid to be seen as the square, if it helped his guest promote their work and at the same time get people to talk about that night's episode of late night. there was a really smart formula going on with that show, it's a shame it all collapsed into pap.

I don't think Dave really cares what Prince thinks. I'm sure the only reason Prince only performs on Leno is that Leno is a complete kiss-ass and you have to completely kiss Prince's ass to get him on your show. How about that Tavis interview?
Dave doesn't put up with any of the celebrity bullshit and that's why he's the best.

I'm more for the Letterman humor.
Paul also still has the tightest band on television. He was also the first band leader on Saturday Night Live! "Paul, may I introduce you to The Artist Formally Known As Pinhead..." Prost! [Edited 5/29/09 14:56pm] "Whatever skin we're in

didn't prince make fun of david letterman on the "kiss extended version" in the mid 80's? i think i remember hearing something on that song. i should listen to it.....
by the way, leno is boring to me, letterman is more clever.

Prince only likes Jay better because Dave is too much like Prince--in control! When you go on Dave he's the one calling the shots. My Legacy

But Letterman zinged Prince first. When he was told that Prince was chosen for superbowl halftime, letterman said on his show "They must not have seen his performance when he was on my show" I heard it with my own ears.

REALLY????? We need the clip. I remember when he sang Dolphin Dave said "here is the new album from the artist which I am told will never be released, which makes perfect sence he is here promoting it." When Prince was on Vibe he told Sinbad that "Arsenio never treated me like that, you have never treated me like that". People get tired of being teased and made fun of.... Now if you want to joke about his shoes, clothes, whateva Prince seems cool but the short, crazy jokes I am sure hurts after a while. Prime aka The Kid
"I need u to dance, I need u to strip I need u to shake Ur lil' ass n hips I need u to grind like Ur working for tips And give me what I need while we listen to PRINCE"

I remember when Prince changed his name back in 2000 and Jay said "Nobody cares if you change your name to Larry. You're The Artist Formally Known as Selling Albums". I don't think Prince has anything against Dave for telling a joke. He just probably prefers Jay to Dave, nothing personal. Just like he seems to prefer L.A. to New York. Just like he seems to prefer L.A. to New York. The L.A. convenience could explain why he hasn't been on any east coast based show too. However, I think Dave has shat on Prince a bit in the past, past the usual ribbing anyone gets from a comedian, and he's chosen to just not go back into the fire.
