ok, if like many other unreleased songs, there's a better version out there, the one from 1986 that I heard was quite underwhelming and i'm left to ponder what the heck is all the fuss about? what's special about this song. not a memorable arrangement, melody or anything. (for a while i was confusing the song with EMPTY ROOM, which is actually a better song IMO) but what am i not getting with this one?

The fuss is, it's unreleased, from 1986 and he played it live in 2009. Which accounts for all the recent attention.

most memorable melodies of any prince song for me personally since that
bit gets stuck in my head at least once a week since 1993

I love the song. It's one of Prince's greatest songs let alone one of his greatest unreleased songs. The horns ect.

I love that lyric. He rifles through that song with such concerning imagery married to a "la la la la" happy upbeat tempo.

I always appreciated the surprise that Prince could offer in certain songs.

Kinda like the arrangement of "Come" sounds so mature, laid back and sophisticated wrapped around porn.

The music is top notch, but I agree about the melody (other than the "lalala" part) not being very interesting.

Despite that, it's one of my favorite bootlegs. Love that creative style of music and that period in his growth.
