shh66 said: as i mentioned somewhere else, u are the FIRST to rag on someone who is being negative about prince.
So wait, you think I'm negative ABOUT Prince, and yet scold others who are negative about Prince too? Gheez girl, you gotta check yourself on THAT logic. Here i am being POSITIVE about the man, and you say "you'd still be putting P on top."
Again girl, that ain't negative. Let's talk logical for a moment, shall we? Your post was very in favor of Prince being the best ballad singer out there, right? You believe that. And others may very well believe that too. And you might even be right. I don't know. As I summed up, "there's room for everyone", which meant singers, AND people's opinions. That's you and me, ya know. Uh, isn't this the prince fan site??? If I were to go on the alicia keys (for lack of knowing who the hell else does anything decent because I don't listen to the radio), I would sing her praises, but this is not the NON-PRINCE forum, the last I checked.
Not a fan of Alicia's anymore, so no clue on that anyway. She just seems...uppity to me. In my opinion, there is not room for everyone.
See, that's your opinion. It's not mine. BUT, there's room for everyone. And I never said S.H.O.E. is one of my top 10 favorite prince slow jams.
Never said ya did. i liked his live performance.
And if you'd read I said I LOVED the performance, over and over. I posted IN BOLD that I thought it was "wonderful". If you're going to use what you see, then see everything first, including my words. Geez, if I had said "Prince's slow jams suck toe jams," you would have given me shit then, too.
Well if you say so. Cuz you know, out of all the things I talk about on Prince.org and elsewhere, my MAIN goal is to contradict YOU. You got me. I guess I'm the 1 u wanna c. Be consistent, please. I love the man's music, and I'm appreciating him, which is what you, of all people (given your penchant for detecting negativity), should do.
See above about me loving his performance tonight, as well as ELSEWHERE where I said I still love Prince. I don't have time for M.J., Lionel Richie, or any other R & B "crooner" besides Prince.
And that's fine. I don't have time for MJ either. But I do listen to other people besides those under P in my CD library. Now, I love James Taylor's "Fire & Rain," and Harry Chapin's "Cat's in the Cradle," but that's not "contemporary music."
A HA! James Taylor is a better ballad singer than Prince! out .

Well of course I'm in the minority of those who LOVED Planet Earth. It took me a bit to warm up to "S.H.O.E.", but once I did, it just fit to me, and I love the song. The video helped nail it for me too. I don't think anyone expected him to do an older song like that, but it just seemed to fit, didn't it? It was about Jay leaving the Tonight Show, not Prince promoting an album. Jay didn't even mention Lotus or Planet Earth either. It was just like a command performance before he left.

So the Target/Prince relationship is officially over then? I'm thinkin' he's going to eventually run out of avenues of distribution if he hamstrings promotion for his business partners. You mean over because he doesn't perform a song from his latest album(s)? Hmm, yes. Even when it would have been over, it could mean he has already lost interest. I do believe he has moved on. I'm not going to say he's distancing himself from LF... yet. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I have listened to the performance several times now, and I must say, a gorgeous vocal performance.
What makes it for me though is the girl who just loses her sh*t, not once, but twice at the very beginning when the band starts, RLMAO. Big chills though. Brotha has mad style and nobody else can pull that stuff off.

To me, it was disturbingly banal. I wanted to curl up in the fetal position and cry. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

It was really good.
His voice sounded great. He looked good. The setting was wonderful. It really was nice. This live rendition is many times better than the version on the Planet Earth album, which I mildly liked. This version just sounds like something that would have fit beautifully in PARADE. And normally when you hear him jam and his voice gets lost in the shuffle on his live performances. This one, his voice was front and center, and his command of it was great. Really impressive. I've heard it 4 times now, and am still impressed. A great sendoff for Leno. [Edited 5/29/09 0:02am]

I wanted to curl up in the fetal position and cry. You sound like me with the Lotus set, and even worse....Musicology. I can get through Lotus/Mpls easier than I can Musicology. That album just makes me mad. haha I put on Mpls today, and got to the last two songs before I turned it off. As far as Planet Earth: LOL Good lord. I found it energizing, fun, playful, varied, and well rounded. I'd nix "Lion of Judah", but I dig the rest.

Kudos to Prince....I wanted soooo bad to hear something upbeat, but he laid it down. I'm fully satisfied, and just might have to break out "Planet Earth" to give it another spin, if not but to hear this song again. Feels like a hug from an old friend. If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!

Absofuckinglutely beautiful. i gotta agree....although it must be hard to 'get in the zone' straight off the bat with only 5 minutes on stage... that said other performers do exactly that....maybe I'm jaded too LOL it was a hell of a lot better than his 'Idol' performance a year or ago, again though, its gotta be hard to 'set the mood' with one song I'd have preferred a more upbeat number - but it was nice to see/hear a different vibe..BTW the band was great!
