Ah. That's what I love about the org.

Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.

So the Target/Prince relationship is officially over then? I'm thinkin' he's going to eventually run out of avenues of distribution if he hamstrings promotion for his business partners.

Nope, I think it's just one of those "Prince performing whatever song he wants to because he can" things. Like when he did Ballad of Dorothy Parker.

Makes a lot of sense to me.

Don't you think you're jumping the gun with that one? Lotusflow3r just came out exactly 2 months ago. Anything can still happen.

wait. what?

I would assume Target still needs to move his most recent product. Prince may have washed his hands of Lotusflow3r, but performing a song from that set would have been a better marketing move than singing a cut from an out of print album.

That is what I saw too. Though I disagree with the expressed sentiment. I say Conan is the best, His coming back from his hiatus is most welcome. I think Paul would pledge his allegiance to Letterman though in reality, Dave is very good.

I would think not. They'll carry the CD past the initial 2 month in-store promotion. They're not going to just pull it from the shelves, no more than Arista or Columbia or EMI will stop printing those respective albums. And he's been with Columbia twice now, no? So really...logic would state that if there is a good relationship in the past, there could be one again. I don't think any of these deals are a one-trick pony. He's feeling things out, and going with what's right at the time. I bet he does something with Target again down the line. It's a VERY smart choice, good outlet, lots of traffic. If he's smart, he won't poo on Target and go with Wal-mart or K-Mart next time. However, for a wider distribution, he could still go w/ a record company again and have the thing in Target, Walmart, FYE, Record Town, etc etc. We shall see.

you are 100% correct to point out that one statement didn't have a thing to do with another. however, i followed my second point up with "I don't care what anybody says." I think p is the best singer of ballads out there, either male or female. I beg someone to think of a better singer than p and a better ballad than, say, "Adore" or "Call My Name." If anyone is able to do so, I'll give you props, but I will not share your opinion because if I believed that celine dion or alicia keys or whoever was supposedly better than prince, i'd be posting on THEIR fan sites.

I wasn't suggesting that Target will stop selling Lotusflow3r. They are the sole distributer of it's physical form. They most likely own the entire pressed stock of the discs, and will probably make a few bucks before putting it on the clearance end-cap.

The relationship between Prince and Target seems a little stand-offish to me. The Target ads were pulled from YouTube, talk show hosts have to my knowledge, only mentioned the website, but hold up a physical CD set that you cannot get there.
Target seems to be the only entity promoting the physical release.

"Adore" Prince and "S.H.O.E." Prince are two very diff people.

There's a lot of awesome crooners out there, but I think if anyone brought one up, you'd still be putting P on top. And if that works for you, so be it. There's room for everyone.

After 2 months, I think it MIGHT be premature to say a bridge is burning. I did find it odd that Target didn't get a lot of talk, except in Part II of Tavis' interview. But then again his sponsor is Wal-mart, so I get that.

As far as youTube.....commercial or not, we ALL know that story.

I actually saw the lotusflow3r cd's at Target today. I believe the relationship is strong and still intact. I don't think he'd let them dictate that he can only perform song from the cds . he's a little too savvy for that. Excellent performance by the way and quite a surprise in song choice. Not quite an oldie but not one of the many tracks we all had on our wish lists. Maybe he read our threads and changed it up at the last minute.

as i mentioned somewhere else, u are the FIRST to rag on someone who is being negative about prince. Here i am being POSITIVE about the man, and you say "you'd still be putting P on top." Uh, isn't this the prince fan site??? If I were to go on the alicia keys (for lack of knowing who the hell else does anything decent because I don't listen to the radio), I would sing her praises, but this is not the NON-PRINCE forum, the last I checked. In my opinion, there is not room for everyone. And I never said S.H.O.E. is one of my top 10 favorite prince slow jams. i liked his live performance. Geez, if I had said "Prince's slow jams suck toe jams," you would have given me shit then, too. Be consistent, please. I love the man's music, and I'm appreciating him, which is what you, of all people (given your penchant for detecting negativity), should do. I don't have time for M.J., Lionel Richie, or any other R & B "crooner" besides Prince. Now, I love James Taylor's "Fire & Rain," and Harry Chapin's "Cat's in the Cradle," but that's not "contemporary music."

You mean over because he doesn't perform a song from his latest album(s)?
Hmm, yes. Even when it would have been over, it could mean he has already lost interest.

Here's my twocents on why he chose this song. Most of the artists that have been on in the past few days SEEMED to have chosen a song directed (indirectly) to sing TO Jay. Sarah MacLachlan sing "I Will Remember You", which was an old song. It just seemed that "Somewhere Here On Earth", even though originally to a girl, was meant as an ode to Jay Leno and the show being good to (and for) him. Even his "note" at the end appeared to sum up the whole theme of the song, that no matter what...Prince is "somewhere here on earth" as a friend to Jay.

I could be totally off, but that was my impression, given the last days performances from folks.
