Nona Gaye said they dated for three years and that the realtionship was VERY superficial. Look at their body language it tells it all. Her emotion is stoic as hell. Im suprised he dated Nona I thought he only like latin girls for a while. I take that back because I remember reading in Chaka Khans book "Through the Fire" that Prince called her up pretending to be Sly Stone and when she went down to meet, supposedly Sly it was Prince. She said she saw this skinny man with a huge afro, she didn't even know who he was. Chaka said that's when he introduced himself, and wanted to get to know her and do a song for her. They kept in touch and "I feel for you" is the song he wrote for Chaka Khan, later on. Chaka Khan is still one of his favorites. Some years back he was looking for her to do another gig and she was overseas with her then boyfriend in England. The message you are about to hear are not meant for transmission. This is all hearsay so take it for what U will. But I knew a chick who knew nona gaye and said that Prince would put her in a cage and tickle her with a feather. He NEVER had sex with her. He would just tickle her over and over. Who know...

Yeah,Nona is really pretty.She has a decent singing voice,too.
Does anyone know....is there a Prince-produced Nona Gaye album collecting dust in the vaults? Recorded in the early 90s? She has a song on the 1-800 New Funk compilation ("A Woman's Gotta Have It") and of course,we're all familiar with the brilliant "Snow Man".That song is EXCELLENT!! I wonder if Prince produced an entire album for her that remains unreleased?

I don't know. It was listed in the picture search. If it's wrong I'll zap it. "The first time I saw the cover of Dirty Mind in the early 80s I thought, 'Is this some drag queen ripping on Freddie Prinze?'" - Some guy on The Gear Page

Your absolutley right, I liked Princes' rendition better. As far as Prince locking her up in a cage and tickling her with a feather, I'd like to have been there to have seen that IF that activity actually took place!!! Thank you. I was gone for a couple days and didn't have a chance to refute that, myself. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Esquire magazine March 2002:
Nona Gaye: You cannot help who you fall in love with. I've dated famous men. Esquire: Yeah? Nona Gaye: I thought you knew one of 'em. ... I dated Prince. Esquire: Do you want to tell me about that? Nona Gaye: Not really. I was seventeen, eighteen. It was very strange, a whirlwind of head trips and mind screws. Three years I dated him and didn't know him and really never let him know me, either. But that was a long time ago, and I wish him well. I have nothing but forgiving and warm feelings to send his way. http://www.esquire.com/wo...2-MAR_GAYE Essence magazine May 2003: "I tried to be this woman I thought he wanted - very passive, letting him lead. He was 16 years older than me. He told a friend of mine he was going to marry me and take care of me. I knew I wouldn't get anything better than that from him, so I believed it. But after that we were in New York, and he asked me to come see his show. Mayte, one of his dancers, flashed the engagement ring he'd given her from the stage. When I asked him about it afterwards, he was very evasive and defensive. I haven't spoken to him since. He did marry Mayte. And it upsets me that we ended things that way, because at one point he was really, really important to me." - Nona Gaye. People Magazine November 17, 2003: At 18, she began dating Prince, 16 years her senior. "I was in love or infatuation," she says. "I just thought he was beautiful." When they split three years later, "my heart was shattered," says Gaye. [Edited 5/30/09 13:01pm] Goodnight, sweet Prince.
