He shows appreciation and respect to those who show appreciation and respect to him. If it ceases on one side then it ceases in both sides.

I'm not your friend. You fail to see the difference in the two. if you are prejudiced, as my father was, you spend/waste your energy talking about how Black people (not what father referred to them as) and "foreignors" take opportunity out of the hands of white people. My father didn't, however, join the local branch of the KKK and burn crosses in the lawns of minorities. THAT'S the difference. And though what my father did caused me (AND my sister) to not talk to him for the rest of his life, I can take comfort in the fact that he DIDN'T act on his hatred. I repeat: Prince is not/can not be a racist. Now, I'm not the only one who feels this way. It seems as if YOU are in the minority. You say I didn't read the quotes I cited, but you basically said the same thing I did: that prejudice comes before racism, and that racism is the BILE that comes out of prejudice's belly. as far as my sister is concerned, I could care less what you believe, sweetheart. I could also care less if I piss you off--that is, unless you beat on women. Then I guess I'll shake in my boots.

Wait. You ignored virtually everything I wrote, dissed me, and then called me 'sweetheart.'

Is this where I'm supposed to get really angry that you've patronised me and call you something else and then we have a 'flame war'?

Tell you what, honeybunny. If you're not interested in actual debate, then don't participate in a debate. Start a fucking blog, m'kay?

what self-respecting "man" says "m'kay?" I know, the kind of person who watches that pitiful south park show. As per your suggestion, I think I WILL start a blog....I'll call it "The Splanknasty, Woman-Hater's Club Blog." That title has a nice ring to it. m'kay?

Whatever Kevein Smith was crying about.. He should not be asking Prince for music.

Maybe, ths was the source of his anger towards Prince all along, and not being able to film in restricted areas of Paisley Park, or talk to some of the staff.

He should allow me to follow him and have all-access to his Production company, staff, etc..

Yeah, right..

I am not sure why we are jumping on Kevin Smith. IF what he said was true on that video that we have all seen, he went to PP in good faith to film this project that Prince was doing and was treated like shit. And we all know that the things that he said happened to him and the treatment he recived was very possible from the Prince camp. Lets be honest. I am no fan of Kevin Smith and have never seen one of his movies but I have seen Prince treat other people with way more and in some cases, too much respect but he does not seem to treat EVERYONE like that. Think about how disrespectful it was to list all of his drummers throughout his career on Old Skool Company but surprisingly left Bobby Z. out of that list. I think the new motto for Prince's band is White American males need not apply. Just some obvious observations

you do have a point that bobbyz's name was not in the lyrics of this song..However,
I have some news for you..Prince did not list all the drummers throughout his career on this song.
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

kevin smith is/was a prince fan. he was at the taping of the rave 2000 gig at paisley park, as a fan, lined up like everyone else. mallrats was shot at the eden prairie mall just along from paisley park and the clerks laserdisc commentry was recorded in MPLS during the shooting of mallrats. he simply wanted to use the song in his movie, just like other filmakers think a specific track will work with a scene, and as part of the process of putting music in a film he had to ask permission, and he was turned down

there are stories from kevin in his first two "evening with" dvds, the second one discusses the aftermath of prince finding out about the first one, and kevin not signing the non disclosure form

Really? He listed Michael Bland, John Blackwell, Sheila, and even Jellybean Johnson and Morris Day from his youth. Who is missing? I don't see anybody with the exception of Cora but she is rhe current one.

So you are saying that it is not possible for Prince to hold "The belief that some races are inherently superior (physically, intellectually, or culturally) to others and therefore have a right to dominate them"?

Or indeed the dictionary definition which is "a racial prejudice or discrimination"

Not that I am suggesting he is or does for one moment.

i think you just answered your own question. anyway..the drummers listed on the lyrics are there because they fit into the song not because he is a racist.
You need to re-examine what you said in your original post. Maybe you can say, "Prince forgot to add all of the drummers in his career in the lyrics of old skool company".Or maybe you can ask Prince yourself. confused you forgot kirk too lol

Yes, sadly he has become very racial. Long ago, when I was a fan in the 80s, one of the coolest aspects of Prince was that the color of your skin wasn't important to him - it was your mindset. Prince fans back then didn't see color. He talked about it in his music.

Those days are long gone (along with the days of his making great music).

Around the time of ATWIAD, PARADE, and SOTT, Prince got more and more grief from segments of the black community that his music was no longer "black". This eventually got to him. He was broken down over time on this issue.
Very sad.

I don't think it got to him at all. Yeah, I know countless blacks that dropped him after "Purple Rain" but countless whites dropped him also. I, myself was pissed as hell when he changed his style but never dropped him. He could have easily gotten all those fans back, both white and black, by going back to his old style but he never did. I don't see that as breaking down and giving in.

No it doesn't. It means the woman who crosses the road when you walk towards her. It means the man who won't ask you directions. It means the judge who gives you six months and lets a white person off the same crime next week.
[Edited 5/25/09 11:28am]

The following is taken directly from "The New Dictionary of Cultural Literacy, Third Edition, 2002."

"Prejudice: a hostile OPINION about some person or CLASS of persons. Prejudice is socially learned and is usually grounded in misconception, misunderstanding, and inflexible generalizations. In particular, AFRICAN-AMERICANS have been victims of prejudice on a variety of social, economic, and political levels."

"Racism: The belief that some races are inherently SUPERIOR (physically, intellectually, or culturally) to others and therefore have a right to DOMINATE them. In the United States, racism, particularly by whites against blacks, has created profound racial tension and conflict in virtually all aspects of American society. Until the breakthroughs achieved by the civil rights movement in the 1950s and 1960s, white DOMINATION over blacks was institutionalized and supported in all branches and levels of government, by denying blacks their civil rights and opportunities to participate in political, economic, and social communities."

Now, answer me this, whiz kid: did you happen to notice a difference in TONE, or are you too dim-witted?? My sister is a civil-rights attorney, so don't try messing with me. Yes, those who are racist are prejudiced, but those who are prejudiced may not be racist. It all comes down to the wielding of power.

I'm white. Prince, Jesse Jackson, and Rev. Al Sharpton (just to name a few) are black. Those black individuals have way more power in this country (and the world) than I have. But by your intellectually lazy way of thinking I can be racist towards them but not vice-versa. You're a nitwit.

I'll make it simpler for you: if a black person hates white people and murders a white person, is that not racist? To take a person's life is to hold the ultimate power over them.

You've been watching a little too much Tony Brown's Journal.
