21 Nights - worth getting?

Hello, is there anyone out there who has anything good to say about the 21 Nights book? It seems to get a lot of criticism. I like the CD but don't really care for the book itself.

PS: If there is anyone in Dublin who doesn't have it and wants a copy, it's for sale in Reads of Nassau St for €9.99

It is worth getting if you think of the book as a fancy wrapper for the CD inside.

It's a pretty book, very big, very nice pictures. CD is ok. It's worth having as a collector's item. Plus it just look good on the coffee table. Get it. You can find it at Border's, Target, etc etc.

If you want a promotional catalogue for the hotel Prince stayed in and only about 5 pictures of the man himself then its a cracking buy.

If you want something that captures the 21 Nights experience then forget it

I love the CD. I didn't get to any of the London aftershows, so to me it's a good way of hearing what I missed out on. After hearing the CD I feel even more gutted I couldn't have been there.... sigh

The book isn't very interesting imo, but it looks nice on my bookshelf biggrin

I happen to enjoy this book. The pictures are clear and precise, the poetry and words are moving, and just because it gives me a glimpes into the prep time and when he is in solitude. With all works Prince does, I look, read, & hear the art as if its the first time kinda like a Snickers Candybar...always a great experience.

I don't know why people hate the book. It's just a picture book with some lyrics in it. It's not War and Peace or The Lovely Bones or something. It's just meant for casual entertainment. Just like The Art Book, or a Dali book (of which I have many). It's there to see, look at sometimes but not write a book report on for your college English class. It's nice for what it's meant to be.

I wasn't TOO thrilled with the CD, but it was decent. I'll have to listen again at least one time once the DTT gets to moving on it.

I'd try to find it deeply discounted, which isn't hard.

Actually every place I've seen it has been right on the same price range. I think I paid $30 for my copy at Target. I saw it at a Border's an hour away from here, and it was actually $35 there. But I do see it everywhere, at least one or two copies.

I Like it too. Don't see where all the negativity is coming from. Beautiful Pics, Nice Live CD. GO for it, Get it!!! smile
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Naw. I actually preferred the unauthorized book, Prince: Life & Times. It's clearanced out at Barnes and Noble. Much better pics in there. I didn't think the pictures in 21 Nights were all that great.

I think it's okay. It serves more as a collector item than something you'd be drawn to look at repeatedly over the years. I put the CD in my ipod but rarely listen to it. It's not the greatest live set compared some of the stuff I have already.
When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I like the book, but too few Prince pictures. I mean, describing the places U go is alright but damn...

The purple iPod Prince should have put along with the CD; we would have had a more complete gift: lyrics, poetry, photos, music and 40mins live footage.

In terms of where the "negativity" for this book is coming from... I think that it may well stem from the fact that this sealed shrink wrapped book is advertised along the lines of a photographic record of princes 21 Night extravaganza with poetry and lyrics. Rip of the packaging and what you actually get are very few pictures of the gigs, none of the aftershows (despite the photographer present at the legendary 21/9/07 aftershow), many of the hotel interior and a few of a motorway and Luton airport. I think I was expecting simeting like a beaitiful tour programme or behins the scenes photos but its more like a brocheure for the hotel which prince wandered into shot.

No it isn't. Save your money...and this is coming from quite a Prince fan.

The book is just a vanity project, pictures aren't particularly mind blowing and don't really show a window into Prince's world, it all looks too posed and staged.
The CD is a let down if you actually were there and heard how good the main concerts were (I have also heard much better unreleased recordings of his shows).
I only looked at it twice and ever since its been gathering dust in my cupboard.

Save it and buy his new album instead (which I have yet to hear but am looking forward to hearing).

First, we're ALL quite the Prince fan. You won't find casual top-40 Prince fans here.

Second, any CD, book, movie etc is a vanity project in some regard. Artists want to be seen, they want to "express" themselves, it's ART, etc etc blah blah. Just sayin'.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
