Didn't think it too bad. Couple of dodgy moments but otherwise a reasonable enough cover. Nice to see such an oldie being covered. RIP

He didn't destroy it. It's about your perspective. It's just a cutesy music nerd's charming take on Prince's classic. "New Power slide...."

It's pretty fair for a square but "DESTROYING PRINCE" on one of the songs that put HIM on the map??? I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Between the off keys on vocals and guitars and the Rhythm... Especially the rhythm... I forgot how great Prince's Timing is..I Could not get through it all..

I think maybe Patrick should have sung it in his normal register. He was really rough, especially in the parts where he really took it higher.
It's not a bad cover, he just shouldn't have sung it in falsetto. JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

Good job. I really hate the genre that Fall Out Boy fall under, but I wasn't aware the singer was any good at all.
It's a cute rendition of the song, and pretty decently done. I like it.

the singer is great and the popular guy in the band writes most of the lyrics i believe
he killed it! I mean he destroyed it

Destoyed it? Yes some might agree that was a massacre
However I think it was a nice tribute and will hopefully turn on a bunch of Fall Out Boys fans to the amazing artist known as Prince. Ain't nobody... The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

It's not a bad cover, he just shouldn't have sung it in falsetto. agreed he does not have a very natural falsetto. [Edited 5/19/09 22:44pm]

No better or worse than any live performance of the song i've heard from Prince.

I wonder if Trent would enjoy this. To Sir, with Love

I thought it was decent.
Has there ever been a better cover of a Prince song than that woman who covered "Do Me Baby"?

Meh. White boy falsetto.
Still worth uploading to youtube, probably.

A very respectable version. Great guitar work, although his falsetto is not the best.

Still worth uploading to youtube, probably. white boy falsetto? real intelligent comment Yeah, it is actually a pretty intelligent comment, dear. You see, I'm white too and know quite well what my falsetto singing sounds like. You can usually tell a white male's falsetto from a black person's falsetto very easily, and that should have nothing to do with prudency. Yeah, but let's not even mention words that connote racial factors, especially when coupled up with the "" -emoticon, which implies irony and sarcasm on the internet. I doubt there exists a scientific study on the various qualities and determining biological / socio-cultural factors why the falsetto on male individuals of various origins sounds different in the popular music context, so let's not extend this into the potentially most ridiculous .org flamewar ever, okay? This guy? He does a decent job at it, but in my opinion it still doesn't entirely cut it. Could be also due the fact that he does not predominantly sing in falsetto, of course. Like noted by one of the other posters, Prince hasn't always been able to deliver the vocals that perfectly when doing the song live. There is still a considerable difference in the overall tone [Edited 5/20/09 3:13am]

I didn't know Jonah Hill was in a band, or could even sing. I liked him in Superbad. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Yeah, that's exactly what an expression like "white boy falsetto" could mean to me - it's the Bee Gees thing. That specific one does however sound quite alright when coupled with the other parts in his lower register. The problem with many, uhm, paler contributors to the falsetto style is just that they can't usually carry an entire tune convincingly all throughout. Thank goodness Beck had the decency to quit doing that thing after "Midnite Vultures".
Now, this one I've actually liked: The studio version seems to be removed from youtube, but in any case being able to carry out "Beat It" at all requires a lot from the vocalist. I mean, anyone is free to try out themselves...

novabrkr - i'm no scientist but I do have ears - and you're talking rubbish !
Some white people have, what I would call a good falsetto and some don't (nasal-squeeking Bee Gees for example). Some black people have good falsettos and some don't. Much of it is subjective anyway but to tie it to a race/ethnic background???? Not intelligent (or accurate) !

I will never forgive them for butchering beat it
now one of my favorite songs from my favorite artist? it wasnt all that bad but he just looks likes he forcing it(not a real fam@) You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

Wasn't a bad rendition. The most offensive thing to me about it was this dude's fugly eyeglasses.
