I was only 16 and her name was Carrie
She was the number one little girl I wanted 2 marry me She was only 14, but she had the major body Yeah, this girl was mean Me and Ace picked Carrie up from school one day We took her 4 a ride in Ace's car, the music started 2 play We sat real close, both nervous Lookin' at each other not knowin' what 2 say Carrie was a sister But her eyes kinda made her look Japanese Her short cut afro, shiny and soft Her clothes fit 2 please Ace was a real fast driver With every turn, Carrie fell in my lap He asked us where we wanted 2 go I said "Yeah right, like U need a map!" The schoolyard, the schoolyard Gettin' it on in the schoolyard With a wink and a nod we were off 2 Ace's pod Like peas who's hangin' 4 a knife The schoolyard, the schoolyard Gettin' it on in the schoolyard We never want it 4 the children of our own We all pray better seeds we have sown But one story that is most commonly known Is gettin' it on in the schoolyard (Schoolyard) Ace's girl showed up, that's when the party started jumpin' Tower Of Power's "Squib Cakes" steady humpin' I said "Carrie, hmm, do U wanna dance?" She said "Uh hmm, yeah, like later man, first let me smoke this weed" I said "Damn, my cologne ain't sayin' shit if this is what she needs" Yeah, before I knew it, Carrie was seein' double That's when me and her got into trouble So much 4 the dance I started takin' off Carrie's pants The schoolyard, the schoolyard Gettin' it on in the schoolyard (Hey hey.. hey!) And now boys and girls 4 the graphic part Close your ears if U ain't got a nasty heart The schoolyard, the schoolyard Here we go Now take a glove, fill it with hot baby lotion and slip it on (Well) Pull it tight, that's what Carrie was like One stroke and I was gone Gone I was, it's true The schoolyard, the schoolyard When your schoolyard baby comes home And it's all that's on their mind Try 2 remember how U felt your very first time.. oh! The schoolyard, the schoolyard Gettin' it on in the schoolyard (Gettin' it on) We never want it 4 the children of our own We all pray better seeds we have sown But one story that is most commonly known Is gettin' it on in the schoolyard (Gettin' it on, oh) (Well, gettin' it on.. heh, heh) The schoolyard (Schoolyard), the schoolyard (Schoolyard) Gettin' it on in the schoolyard (Boy, U're gettin', yeah) The schoolyard, the schoolyard (Schoolyard) Gettin' it on in the schoolyard (Gettin' it on, get.. get.. gettin' it on, yeah) (Hey!)

It was original on Diamonds and Pearls. There's a bootleg called Uncut Diamonds (I think T put it out). The track list was:
Cream Daddy Pop Diamonds & Pearls The Flow Horny Pony Live 4 Love Money Don't Matter 2 Nite School Yard Something Funky Strollin' Violent The Organ Grinder Walk Don't Walk Willing and Able No I'm not sure how close this was to the original track list of D&P, but that's what the bootleg has on it. I really dig "Live 4 Love". The vocals are different. He isn't so 'aggressive' in his delivery. It's a more laid back, deeper voice delivery. There's only a couple slight instrument changes. "Cream" is more straight ahead, without all the cuts and embellishments. "The Flow", although a different version from still makes D&P Prince's embarrassing foray into rap with Tony M. rattling on about the funk (as he does on "Something Funky").

U shoulda cut it off when Prince said "and now boys and girls for the graphic part close your ears if u ain't got a nasty heart". I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh

I think that Schoolyard was mentioned in his Rolling Stone interview as being on an early configuration of the album. If I remember correctly, he played it for the interviewer. Strangely enough, yeah, I do also remember vaguely "Schoolyard" being considered for an official release. I was doubting that "Uncut Diamonds" would have presented something that Prince was considering to be releasing as such. Although there have been some rather strange early configurations of his 90s albums too. Personally I think "Schoolyard" is just a silly song though. Not worthy of a release, but I can see why someone with a studio of his own would want to be spending a day or a two making something like that just for fun. The strange part about the outtakes from 1990- onwards is just the noticeable drop in quality: you could compile really good records from the outtakes on your own from his 80s period, but around the time of GB / D&P there are only perhaps several outtakes tracks circulating from each year that are really even worth serious listening (in my opinion most of them are just inexcusable, really dated pop / rap dross - just see under "Carmen Electra"). I've been thinking that it might have perhaps been all the protege albums he was involved in around that time that seriously decreased his songwriting chops, because for one reason or another he chose to intentionally write very non-descript material musicially for those artist. Not saying that he intentionally wrote bad songs for them, they just seem more like "work" for him, instead of having been driven by any artistic ambitions. Neither am I implying that his officially released material would have been substandard by themselves, he still had a bunch of good enough tracks for them.

T slowed them down to degrade the quality since they are bootlegs. It's not how they were originally recorded. With a quick pitch adjustment and speed adjustment, they'd sound just like the album versions.

Must I remind you of "The Wedding Feast", "Judghead", and "Arrogance" ? "The Wedding Feast" and "Arrogance" are tracks that are different. Not every track included on an LP needs to be a fully-constructed song, and the artist (Prince, in this case) may feel like they offer a break to the rest of the flow of the album. They work differently and should be judged by different terms accordingly, although it's quite customary on this site by this point that a number of people automatically complain about such tracks being included on Prince's albums. Same thing with all the interludes on albums like or TRC. "Schoolyard", however, is a full song with choruses and verses, and as such at least it fails to win me over.Other peoples' opinions on the track's merits may differ, but I find it totally non-worthy of an official release. I don't really see why anyone who's not a Prince fan would want to give too much attention for something like that. Arrogance? I remember it being picked out as the "only listenable" track from the -album by some critic around the time of the record's release.
