Apparently, P and Madonna did MORE than just a song together. It was widely reported back during P's peak during the Purple Rain extravaganza (I always loved that word) that they were having a fling. Pop mags such as People and black teen mags such as Black Beat and Right On! wrote about this as well. Was it not mentioned in some book that P complained to one of his friends/co-workers that Madonna was "too wild" and too aggressive with him while they were fucking in the back of a limosine on the Purple Rain tour? Anyway, it was reported in 85 that it was a rumour that P's next film after PR was to star P and Madonna. A film P wrote titled "The Prince of Darkness and the Morning Star". This was before any word about UTCM, which it was rumored that Madonna was also originally was slated to star in that. This was before he considered Wendy's twin sis. The reason that Madonna wasn't in UTCM was because her then husband Sean Penn didn't want her working with Prince. These were the rumours that were out at this time when P was linked in the media with every hot woman on the planet.

Yeah,Prince wanted Madonna to co-star with him in 'Under The Cherry Moon'.He also wanted her to co-star in 'Graffiti Bridge' with him.In the 80s,he was determined to do a movie with her.I really don't think it would have worked out, though.Prince and Madonna both have strong personalities,so I'm sure that they would have clashed.Madonna is not like Prince's other women. She's strong, independent and doesn't like to be controlled. She took one look at the 'Graffiti Bridge' script and told Prince to his face that it is "shit",lol.I don't think that none of his female proteges would have told him that.

"Love song" has been discussed here in the past. GREAT song! I don't think it would have been a hit. It was too "strange". I'm glad it wasn't released as a single.

Yeah,I like the song alot but I'm not sure if it was strong enough to be a single. It's too "dark",almost demo-like.It's a huge departure from most of the other songs on the album, which are more catchy and radio-friendly.

He also plays guitar(uncredited) on Like A Prayer, Keep It Together and Act Of Contrition. Don't know if on the album or single versions.

really?? wow i am really surprised he actually worked with her. Prince really amazes me sometimes.

I'm not surprised that he worked with her.He has said that he is a huge fan of hers, and the two have several things in common. They were labelmates, the same age, both from the midwest, and both very sexual. They also experienced their "heyday" around the same time (1984/85).

That's what I had been saying. What was the name of the book that Madonna talks about P breaking up with her?

Although it should be noted that this is an unauthorized biography.Madonna has never really spoken in-depth about her affair with Prince. This book has several pages devoted to their romance, but much of the info comes from insiders/friends.

Yeah, I knew it was a book about it. But like I stated earlier, that shit was rumored about them easily since 85. I've seen where Madonna has talked about P but I had never seen P ever mention Madonna. Lot of people seem to NOT like the vision or the idea that it was even remotely possible that they had a fling, dated or that they just simply fucked. Although I've heard a few girls say that Carlos Leon resembled a taller version of P. I don't see the resemblence though.

Since they are both divorced now,I wonder if there's still a chance they could get together now? lol

One of my best friends was in love with Madonna and hated Prince. I love Prince and I could dig Madonna. Both of us were very disappointed with this song. I think most fans of both artists shared that opinion. They were both releasing much better material than this lazy unsexy song.

too bad it was a slow song. I think it would have been better if it was a fast dirty song.

my favorite part is the final verse, when Madonna sounds pissed off....

Don't try to tell me what your enemies taught you!
I'm gone, but I just want to you know (love song)
That this is not the love song that I want to sing....

See here for interview with Madonna discussing their collaboration on 'Love Song', and confirming Prince's contributions on 'Act of Contrition' and 'Keep It Together'

I find Madonna mostly tiresome, especially after she followed the excellect Ray of Light with such junk but she nails it right here:

Interviewer: The three of you have had such an enormous effect on popular music. Yet recently it seems that both Prince’s and Michael Jackson’s connection with the world has weakened while yours has strengthened and become more intimate and personal. Do you feel that?

Madonna: Yes. I think because I stay in touch with the world, and I think that Michael Jackson and Prince have really isolated themselves. And they live very isolated lives. There’s so much fearfulness and so much inhibition that comes with when you become a celebrity and you’re in the public eye all the time; I think you really have to fight that temptation to go into hiding and surround yourself with people who protect you and keep life out from you. I don’t want to live that way. I don’t want to crawl into a hole. I don’t want to go around with six bodyguards, you know?

I have noticed in recent years that Prince compares everything to night clubs, cards, and coins. Maybe he just stays in his bubble and doesn't allow too many outsiders in.
