Why is it so hard to understand that he was repeating what Dick Gregory stated on the State of the Black Union. eek

How do you know that's what SoulAlive is talking about? confuse

I hope that is what he talking about because the President information is the information that CJ jumped on.

I watched the whole interview and a lot of the controversial things P said was P repeating what he heard from someone else. Something that seems to have been missed by many orgers.

To be "controversial".

Duh.

Not only that, but is it really okay to repeat something that's false as an attempt to sound educated and pass it off as the truth? (not talking about this situation or whatever it was that DG said - just in general).

----
Well according to one of the orgers P and Dick are wrong about the number of Presidents not that Washington was not the first. So they may be wrong on the number not the idea that Washington was not the first president.

I do not know enough about the topic to get into it. I watched the interview and thought that P and Dick are stating the following. Why is so much history left out in the schools?

Trust me P and Dick my not have all the facts about the Presidents but everybody knows a lot of black history and history in general is not taught at all in the schools.

It is real easy to jump on someone and imply that are stupid and not deal with the larger issue and just because you repeat something someone else stated it does not mean the world is coming to a end.

Your need to be real careful about calling other people stupid unless your genius. Everybody is good at something and weak in other areas.

C.J.:

"Prince said as a member of the Jehovah's Witness denomination he doesn't vote. However, "That's not to say that I don't think Barack Obama -- President Obama -- is a very smart individual and he seems like he means well." What condescension from Symbolina, who is no intellect compared with Obama."

Condescension? Prince says that Obama is smart and has good intentions. There is no condescension in that sentence. She just made that up!

Prince is CJ's "beat." She's a columnist. It's common -- heck, the norm -- for columnists to have recurring topics and people whom they use as foils or targets.

That folks here seem to not understand that about the newspaper world shouldn't surprise me, neither should the outrage some seem to voice over her nerve to write something negative about him.

Only diehard fans think "Symbolina" isn't funny or outdated. The general public, who make up CJ's readership, probably don't have a problem with it on either count.

And, Prince says off-the-wall stuff. To get attention. I think he digs being CJ's foil. She represents something he doesn't see often: someone who'll call him on his stuff.

Not me, because in that interview he specifically kept referring to DG and the SOBU conference. wink Also, thing is, whether he was repeating what he heard at the conference, no one here can say whether he believes what he heard or not, and even if he did, isn't that his choice whether anyone here agrees with it or finds it silly? I believe from watching that interview he has concerns about what goes on in the black community or he would not have interests/concerns of what is being said at the SOBU conferences and Tavis even stated the day of the SOBU of 2009, that P has always had a concern for the discussions that took place at that conference, and that he and Prince get together via phone, and discuss the issues of concern that are/were part of the program. I see nothing wrong with that.

so what you're saying is that Prince does exactly what he's crying out against, which is to buy some stupid made up bullshit that some other crackpot told him instead of looking into it himself?

Prince needs to learn that just because he's never heard it before and it's a contrarian opinion (if you can even call it that, vs. outright bullshit) doesn't make it more true than the actual truth. Prince is as guilty of anyone (guiltier, usually, if you listen to his lyrics) of biting into a line of b.s. conspiracy theories hook, line, and sinker.

As far as Prince being no intellect. Well, duh. lol
He's proven himself over and over again that when he opens his mouth, he always seems to say something profoundly stupid or offensive.
I laugh when people think he's 'complex' or 'intellectual' lol Please. He's a genius musician with the ability to manipulate words in song sometimes in very clever ways. But that shit he said on Tavis's show was comedic. lol
If anything his true genius may be that he's been joking the entire span of his career and the media is his punch line. One can only hope. lol

[Edited 5/10/09 23:32pm]

Imago, so what if Prince says something offensive or what you call 'profoundly stupid'in most of his interviews. There have been other brilliant thinkers who have done that before him.
Prince might not take enough time to read up on the facts and instead he might go by what other influential people in his life tell him.
Prince's main interests are and probably always will be God and music. Music is his gift, that's where he stands out, so when Prince talks about politics for example, he doesn't exactly come across as the go-to-expert. But that doesn't make him less brilliant.
Prince in my eyes is an enlightened being who doesn't necessarily go by worldly but spiritual truth. People who always seek for a scientific answer to everything can not possibly understand where Prince is coming from.

Well, when Prince's point is that you shouldn't just believe what you're told, perhaps a little research into the topic used an example might be in order, instead of just regurgitating what some kook told him.

He's not enlightened at all. He's just a hypocrite.

Prince may not always be accurate or concise, but he got a lot of people here to Google "presidents before Washington" and come up with a bunch of info they had never learned in school.

Not to say that Washington was not the first true president, but there was some truth to what prince said, and that the accepted history teaches us a clean version of the facts, such as "Columbus discovered America."

Nope. hmph!

For that, here in America, you gotta use the passcode next to where it says "Negro" or "Black"
on your birth certificate and register your status online at www.whitefolkspluckedmylastnerve.org. nod
