Which Prince Book is the best?

I'm in the mood to read a Prince book. I've never much cared for them cause I don't generally believe half the shit that's written about him even when it comes from his own mouth.

But, I see a lot of facts that folks know about him here
that I am constantly saying to myself "really?"? lol
And I've been a fan since 83'

So anyways, here's what kind of books I like:

1) I don't like drama. I couldn't care less who hated who, etc. etc.

2) I don't need to know EVERYTHING about a song, but would at least like
to know how it was concieved, who it was about, etc. etc.

3) It can't be too long or I'll fall asleep.

There's a 33-1/3 book on Sign O The Times that's interesting. Very light.

The Vault might be overkill.

The Alex Hahn book Possessed might be too "trashy" for your tastes.

Life And Times is a good combo of pix and tidbits.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Which one is your personal favorite?

I have no interest in pics of Prince actually. You can get those anywhere lol

I don't mind 'trash'--I just find it uninteresting. It's ok to have it so long as there's alot of real historical information.

Life And Times is great.

Two more great books that I didn't mention are Uptown's Turn It Up 2.0 and Days Of Wild, both are quite informative and good reads. Really, they're predecessors to The Vault, but smaller bites. Days Of Wild comes with a PDF filled CD-ROM as well.

There's a new book coming out pretty soon that covers P's early years called Prince: in the Studio. http://www.antimusic.com/...onth.shtml

Here is a chunk of Possessed that you can read online:

Do anything cover the 800 pound gorrilla in the room? That he might be somewhat gay?

I can't wait to check these out. I think I'll start with Life and Times

I ordered the "Build Your Own Submarine" kit from the back of that comic. Oh, and the X-Ray Specs, too.

AGREED! It truly left me wanting more, because the next 10 years was some of the most productive times from Prince. Plus with the WB fight, it would have been excellent reading. Per is a great writer about all things Prince, and he did a bang up job w/ DMSR. I've never gotten The vault or Turn It Up, etc. I'd love to have those too. I really dig the dates and places that the songs were recorded. I've often thought of making a playlist in iTunes and putting all those songs (the ones I have) in that exact order, just to hear or feel Prince's mood on any given day or time frame, and what songs came from that.

I loved this one, mine has a different cover.

I've never seen mentioned on the org "Prince: An Illustrated Biography" by John W. Duffy, from 1992. I think is good for P newbies: over 100 pages, quite accurate, some nice pics, includes discography. geek

But then Imago is no newbie boxed

Pop Life by Dave Hill is still a very cool book.
If you find a copy, grab it
But DMSR is very comprehensive and highly recommended.
ps. If you find a copy of Turn it up please tell me where.(I want this one)
