Cuz you have me ALL figured out. You're SOOO smart. Maybe you're MY 'fam' now! HAHAHA

The insanity never ends does it?

Lighten up, you're the only one taking themselves that seriously. And what's insanity? Tell the truth? Staying logical about the all mighty Prince? Yeah..that's insanity. rolleyes

If you'd pay attention and stop being on the offensive, you'd realize that the thread is about Prince dying in the future at some point, which he will. AND that when that pic was released of him on Lotus, everyone said they hated it and he looked dead in it anyway, so what insanity have I put into it?

That's what I thought.....nothing.

I am NOT a fam of yours so get your mind right with that one. I will admit this much, I did overreact. I don't like seeing Prince like that and I know how people will react to seeing him like that. It's sick and I don't want nor need to see him in that manner, He will die as we all will at some point but damn. That's just too much, ya know. We should be celebrating not mourning and that's intial point of the thread. That's what I always aim to do once I get here but then when I get here, it almost always changes, kinda like riding the subway in NY and the train has to be rerouted because of signal problems or a sick passenger. I just don't want to be sad in this place, which I am more times than not, and this was just like the friggin bottom right here. It doesn't sit well with me.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

It's just a pic, man! Letitgo. It wasn't meant to be all moody and shit. Frankly it's a compliment to Prince that people react so harshly to a pic like that, because somehow it shows just how much people DO love and care about his music, and would utterly HATE to see him like that for real, MYSELF INCLUDED.

And I didn't start this thread, I'm just along for the ride. Gheez, I never thought a group of (what I thought to be) logical people would be so on end about a photoshopped pic like that. Of ALL the pics photoshopped, THIS one gets the bruhaha. It's crazy to me. peace

I think its highly arrogant of ernest to dismiss people's feelings in this way. You have to assume responsibility for your actions (specfically here, ernest and his enormously artistic and humourous picture of prince dead in a coffin) and, ernest, you are intelligent enough to realise that it was going to provoke a reaction from some people. Just because you don't agree with their point of view on the subject, you shouldn't dismiss it.

Death shouldn't be taboo - we all have to deal with it at some stage...but that knowledge doesn't make it any easier. And whilst it shouldn't be taboo, or not discussed, neither should it be mocked so carelessly and with little fore or afterthought. Does it not occur to you that some may find it a challenge because they lost someone close to them recently? People's individual circumstances form their perspective on everything they deal with - you don't know what that person may have had to endure, so you shouldn't brush their reaction aside. Why should your viewpoint dictate theirs? Maybe you are lucky enough not to have experienced losing someone who means alot to you.....I suspect that if you had, you wouldn't be quite so glib.

Pictures and statements of any kind have an effect on people, whether you agree with that or not. A year ago or so, there was a massive furore globally from people who took offence at some dutch (if I remember correctly) cartoon featuring the prophet mohammed. You may not agree with the fact that a cartoon, which was comical in intent (and, perhaps, inflammatory also), should provoke such a vehement reaction...but it did and, as such, responsible action that takes in to account everyone's feelings, as much as is possible, ought to be sought. Some attempted that (public apologies made, images withdrawn etc - some felt further provocation and defence of freedom of speech were more important).

I think ernest knew full well the kind of reaction he was going to provoke with his "bit if fun" and I don't think it serves him well to now be saying those people shouldn't be so sensitive and "it's only a pic" - or am I crediting him with too much intelligence?

No you are not crediting him with anything. You are speaking nothing but the truth Mindflux and I thank you for saying all that you did just now. Look, I am not against people talking about death and Prince. I said it before on this thread, it's going to happen sooner or later but for me and others here, seeing Prince in a coffin like that just isn't cool.

I'll be completely honest and open with you right now. My grandfather just got diagnosed with cancer in February. While he's alright at this moment, it's been hard to see my grandfather go through what he's going through and I know that death is a real possibility and it sucks so bad. I hate it, so seeing a photoshopped pic of my favorite singer like that yesterday really got me mad as hell. I stated in my last thread that I overreacted, I'm sure I may have been mixing all the stuff with my grandpa with Prince, I don't know. I just know that the pic offended me and Ernest's arrogant response to it all didn't help matters any.

I don't take myself seriously but this was just one of those things where I reacted the way that I did and I don't regret it. It was a bit much but it was real. Besides, the pic and a lot of what was said on this thread had nothing to do with what the OP had posted. It was all about celebrating Prince's music while he's still with us and not focusing on what we don't like or wish Prince had released instead of what he did release. We went FAR off base with what the OP had in mind with this thread. That's all I have to say. For now.

While I fully understand the situation with your grandfather, Prince is a different thing. I watched my grandpa die back in 1987. Literally watched him slowly stop breathing on the morning of his 74th birthday. Five years and five days later, in the same ICU ward, in the same hallway, I watched my grandma die too. No one is insensitive to death, and the effects it has on people.

We all have buttons that get pushed in life. The reason people get so upset is because the button pushing is unexpected, and no one fully knows someone else's buttons. But IT IS JUST A PIC. I figured some would get the satire in the picture, based ON THE THREAD AT HAND, WHICH I DID NOT START. (Did anyone see the irony of the thread title and the person who started it being named "GhostlyNun"?????)

Although I can put together good pictures, and feel the one of Prince is decent at best. It didn't quite turn out quite like I wanted.

And wasn't there a mannequin or something in the "Face Down" video, and a mock funeral? Didn't Prince put the date of his death on the COME CD cover? Didn't he himself chant "PRINCE IS DEAD" in concert, inciting the crowd to do the same? Hasn't Prince talked about dying in music (like "Dolphin", "Crystal Ball", "All My Dreams"), etc?

Yeah, I knew there'd be a bit of reaction, but to this level and people declaring me insane, crazy, arrogant (WTF? that one is a stretch, Mindflux, a real stretch), or whatever else.

Yeah, I am intelligent, and I'm smart enough to realize people would react. But to this level? No, not at all. I'm not apologizing for the picture. It's a photoshop, and not a great one this time around. Prince has been made into a million things in photos and no one ever gets this pissy about it. However, there's another bit of "ahh, makes sense" in certain people's reactions, based solely that it came from The Org. The Org has that reputation of having a few overtly obsessive and clueless fans (uh oh, there's another flame war coming), however I believe most people on here are logical enough to, yes, be slightly disturbed by the pic, but hopefully understand the satire of it.

Mohammed is a religious figure, highly respected and revered. Prince is a musician, not a godfigure or godhead. To compare to the two would insult a lot of believers of Mohammed. (Remember the kid who innocently named his teddy bear "Mohammed" and got flack for it?)

I knew there'd be a reaction, but as I stated above in response to PurpleCam, the level of the response is ridiculous to me, and very unexpected.

I take issue with the arrogance statement. I'm not dismissed people's feelings about the pic. But since when does it become arrogant on my part to defend my picture, and explain it? It's like putting someone on trial with no defense attorney and no leeway to defend themselves. What is this, the court of Henry VIII after the Reformation? No trail, just a hanging at the king's whim. Nope, I'm not playing a victim. No one is a victim here at all in fact. I fully assumed responsibility for the picture. I've not taken it down, and I won't. If the moderators feel they should, I'll respect that. However, it's staying on my own personal pages outside of Prince.org's domain.

It's time to move on from this silliness. Prince is alive and well, and NO ONE, not even me, wishes death on him. No, death should not be taboo, and often times it's a subject of comedy in movies ("Oh God!", "Heaven Can Wait", and that silly Chris Rock remake) and TV shows ("Dead Like Me"). But it should also be seen as the 1 dimensional joke that is was in this picture.

And let's face it: If there was ever a picture to be used for this sort of thing, it's THAT picture of Prince. It's a horrid picture of him, he looks pale and dead (and most fans stated as much when it was released on Lotus). I took it to another level.

beatdeadhorse Let's end the tirades and move forward already.
