prince is a musician... so am i

and it's why i get that he's so pissed at being ripped off... have any of you people who whine about him being bitter about record deals etc, ever had something you created stolen?

recently i helped a guy out with some music ... he asked to collaborate on a song... i wrote the music and he basically stole it from me and passed it off as his own.... i've had this happen more than once

prince WORKS hard to create what he's created.... he has every right to do what he wants with it... and if he's annoyed/angry/whatever about how he's been treated by record companies... that's his damn business

i spoke to a copyright lawyer recently... he told me that the music business is one of the most dishonourable out there

so all you also-rans who don't play need to stfu... you have NO IDEA what you're talking about

seriously

You are right, music is hard work that should be owned by the creator, but there's no need to be so aggressive in trying to get your point across - I'm sure most orgers on here understand and support Prince's point of view.

cool

i might come off as harsh but to be honest i've had a gut-full of so called experts who don't play

don't get me wrong though... in the past i've been caught up in it and have been a dick regarding prince and his music.... best thing i ever did was take a break from the prince community for a while

what kind of stuff do you play?

Just remember that some of us Orgers are musicians too, and fully understand the copyright thing, the stealing thing, etc etc. However, I still think there is a disconnect, even a slight one, between non musician fans, and musician fans. The whole idea of "stealing" music doesn't seem as big of an issue in that regard to non-musician fans. (This goes for ANY music fan, not just Prince specifically.) On that note, people don't see stealing music as a big deal because people don't value music anymore. They don't see it as a commodity, but rather as a non-entity. Even if you have a CD in your hand, there is still a separation between the idea of a song and something more "tangible" like a pair of socks or a car.
