Does this new album suck or what??? ...and so did Planet Earth. (future baby mama-- please hardly a prince classic. Is there no one in his life that will be honest with him about his music. Everything sounds the same now or he goes off in these jazzy bluesy riffs which have never worked for him. The last album that was consistently good was 3121 and Musicology. And for those that may remember, i think Clive had the right idea by pairing him with contemporary artists and producers in RAve in2 the Joy Fantastic Album. While the album may not have been marketed properly, the CD actually made him relevent again somewhat. He blamed the label but he himself bore some of the blame since this was his confusing TAFNAP(sp) days. I know for him it may not be about the radio play or album sales anymore but i find no joy in his music.
I thought I would NEVER EVER say id rather listen to one of the current formula acts rather than Prince. But that day has come for me at least. My teenage daughters were loving the older stuff and I was trying to create my own new generation of Prince fans but when my daughter heard Planet Earth she said... this sucks Dad..and when i purchased the new CD at Target and we played it several times she said and i quote "what happened to him, it is the same old sound." Is there no one to say to Prince, your single choices have been horrific?? I am sure you all have seen the Box of Chocolates Video- OMG---that doesnt make any sense no matter how much you drink or smoke....and just to get it all off my chest....There is obviously no one in his life that has a say to edit his music to make it coherent, crisp and radio friendly. We get 6 min meandering songs that might be better if tightened up to 3.45. He has the freedom now to write and distribute whenever he wants to...but i wonder if this was a good thing or not. Sometimes having parameters to work within makes you better. Dont get me wrong i have been a Prince fan for 30 years beginning in 1979 with I wanna be your Lover, i've followed him through every band change, name change, outfit change, label change, music club change, experimental phase change.....but in the future (?) I think i have earned the right to complain as what I see as a sad state of affairs. [Edited 4/22/09 22:02pm] [Edited 4/23/09 21:40pm]

Planet Earth was, by far, the best album of the three of that time (Musicology/3121/Planet Earth).

This album is POPPIN! Today The Ride got me ready to be a Dreamer as I slept on the couch trying to free my colonized mind from the clutches of my cd radio that hardly plays me anything but tennis shoe and cap songs, comercials and and any other junk that i don't put in it. I lived to see the dawn. today i was fortunate to have woke up again and smelled the lotus flowers and they were quite rock hard in a funky place and i took Joy in repeating this process Over and Over again.
If any of you got through my jiberish, does anyone remember these lyrics? bear with me this is to the best of my 40 year old brain and english skills. "Words are like shoes there just something you stand on. I wish u could b in my shoes but they'er probably so high you'd fall of and die. 4 u words r definately not shoes, they'er weapons and tools of destruction and your time is boring unless you'er putting something down. what would life b if we believe what we read and a smile is just the up side of a frown Come now, isn't life a little better with a pair of good shoes?" I wish I still had this B side.

err, didn't 'future baby mama' win a grammy ? (ok, so i wouldn't put it up against 'adore', 'do me, baby' or 'when 2 r in love', but still...).
it's all apples and oranges i guess. i would have thought however, that '30 years being a fan', would b long enuff 2 know that P is gonna b P, warts and all, and no mo'fo' is gonna change him or what he does.

I don't particularly like Madonna but I don't go to her site and slag her off...That would be a waste of my time Occasionally I do it here instead PRINCE IS WATCHING U " When an Artist Creates, whatever they create belongs to society"

For every new Prince CD we get the sad fan who claims that Prince has suddenly lost it but will claim he had it 2 cds ago. Which conflicts with the other fan who says he lost it last CD but has reclaimed it this CD.
Then u have the he lost it in 88 or he lost it after the gold experince or he lost it by following TRC with musicology or he lost it when he did TRC. No one ever stops to consider maybe just maybe they themselves have lost it. What ever "it" is.

How many of you responding have been fans for 30 years? Just curious....You probably just came along for the ride in the last few years....
While a fan since 1979 my first Prince concert was in 1983, Prince the Time and Vanity 6. Followed by 1984 of Prince and Sheila E. Those were exciting times for sure. I will forever be a fan but my comments still stand.
