We've talked about this be4. This thread isn't so much about the song, "Eye hate U." as it is about the feelings of sexual jealousy in general.
This is on a positive note, as I had somewhat of a profound revelation. The first thing that U have to realize is that we all comprehend this...and maybe for years have dealt with the insecurities that go along with feeling jealous. I do believe that a sliver of jealousy represents passion...unless it get's out of control and people are throwing things and it's more than just a raised voice argument. The other night I looked at love at 100 percent capacity for a minute, and I realized that if we are jealous than we are not loving our partners or ourselves with all of our hearts. I really have been contemplating devotion lately....What is loving with all of your heart? I think that most of us can only hope that it's out there. What else would true love be if it wasn't whole hearted....and that's bigger than maybe any of us can understand. Any thoughts? Prince always inspired my mind to contemplate love and my heart to just always feel it. I guess we all kind of go up and down with the levels, or we'd be velcroed on our wedding day...huh? Oh what the hell. Before this thread gets locked I'll take a stab at it cause I like you alot, Tame.
I'll answer it in 2 parts: FIRST : "What else would true love be if it wasn't whole hearted....and that's bigger than maybe any of us can understand."--Tame The buddhist have a concept called 'Dependent Origination' and to understand this fundamental truth is the key, in buddhist minds, to obtaining Nirvana. Now when the Buddha was asked if women could obtain enlightenment (or Nirvana), he said yes. Indeed even animals could obtain it. NOTE: At this time in history, women were not viewed as intellectually equal to men in society. It would not have appeared abnormal to receive such a terse question as we view it today. The reason for this is that Nirvana is NOT an intellectual understanding. It is not something to be reasoned. I feel the same way about love. We all know what it is by the aching we feel in our chests. We all know what it is when we feel it for someone else. And we certainly know what it is to love someone unconditionally and with all our heart. There is no 'reasoning' or thought process behind it. We just know what it is by the aching in us... or the warmth in us. SECONDLY The song, I HATE U is an awful representation of that. And honestly, am baffled how it can be used to illustrate this concept at all [true love]. I HATE U carries an ongoing theme through much of Prince's career of what I now call the 'Lolita' character. This is a woman of low moral stature, who can not chose between Prince (the protagonist) and some fictional male competitor. Prince is having to work very hard to get the morally inferior woman (think of songs like 'sleep around' off Emancipation, or begging the question to her (think of 'The Beautiful Ones'), or having to talk himself up to compete with her promiscuity (think Little Red Corvette). Throughout all his career, the 'Lolita' character reappears in one form or another. Sometimes as the morally corrupt 'other woman' and sometimes as the woman who strays or can't chose between him and another man. Through it all, he always seems to try and 'teach' the woman some moral rule or he tries to compete with her in some sense to gain favor. I HATE U is obviously about a woman who strays from him and him courting her to win her back. The theme makes for very good theatre, and I like many of the songs that fall in this category. But they certain are not how I'd chose to live my love life. And definitely not good representations of unconditional love. . [Edited 5/2/09 18:44pm] | |
