Once again I guess I'm just old. I really don't see the point of Guitar Hero or Rock Band or whatever. I mean why would I want to pay two or three hundred dollars to play what amounts to air guitar, air drums, keyboards, etc., when I can do the same thing for free while listenting to a cd? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Not only ignorance, but Hate. Someone needs to get some love. Anybody got some love for.....? Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

look, the game purports to indicate that the majority of kids who play Guitar Hero eventually pick up the guitar. As someone who has tried countless times to learn to play the instrument, I say it's one thing to PICK UP an instrument; it's quite another to actually stick with it through the callouses, strap burns, etc. Most kids don't have the patience to undertake something so difficult. And there IS a difference between, say, the guitar and the piano. I can play hecka piano but i can't play guitar.

You have a point. Is there any evidence that shows that kids are picking up a real guitar and taking the time to learn to play and sticking with it. Learning to play an instrument can be pretty frustrating and I'm just wondering if playing this game really results in someone really learning to play the guitar.

I saw kids become fans of certain legends because of that game "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Activision may be able to throw their fat rolls of cash at bands like Metallica and Aerosmith, but there's one man who was approached by the company and turned them down: Prince. Yes, the man who is perhaps the greatest living American says in an interview with Tavis Smiley that Activision once approached him over the series (presumably for downloadable content), offering cash money in return for licensing rights. And Prince said no dice. "I ain't mad at them. I hear it made, like, $2 billion and they came to us and offered us a very small portion of that. But I just think it's more important that kids learn how to actually play the guitar", he told Smiley. "It's a tough instrument — it's not easy. It took me a long time, and it was frustrating at first. And you just have to stick with it, and it's cool for people who don't have time to learn the chords or ain't interested in it, but to play music is one of the greatest things." "To create something from nothing is one of the greatest feelings, and I would — I don't know, I wish it upon everybody. It's heaven." Don't get mad. It's Prince. http://kotaku.com/5233753...ds--pearls I have different point of view about Prince saying "no" to Guitar Hero or whatever it's called. I do not have anything against video games or home games. As a matter of fact, back in my day of gaming you would find me at the local arcade playing arcade games like Mortal Combat, Street Fighter and Basic Instinct. I was into fighting games. The laser tag came along and I was really into that. Now times have change. I do not like how kids/children are stuck up in the house playing games, getting overweight, out of shape and just plain fat. Children have the same type of problems adults are having with obesity and lack of motivation to do any form of physical activity. I can include myself in that because when I was in school I wasn't playing sports, I was playing music and listening to music. I should've to involved with sports as well. My son does a lot of sporting activities. I agree with Prince, let's put it that way. Anything to get these kids away from games. How much money is enough, he's rich and will never be poor. The artist that do say "yes" are doing it for the money I think 1st and perhaps "the love" of music 2nd. Metallica used to be starving artist looking for their big break as well as the other artist mentioned in the video. Now it's about control of your music and art. So again, I say "no" just like Prince. Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

Dang. Throwback game. Worst thing ever to be rapping about using the toilet. XD hahaha back on topic, I wish he would contribute a song. But at the same time admire him for not doing so. There is way too much hype over the game as it is. Then suddenly everyone and their mom is a dadgum rockstar just because they're good at the game. I know it's all in fun but it's really annoying when people actually, literally state that GH makes them official players of the instrument. Blech! How many kids would seriously dig Prince? I mean, really. I know there are LOTS of teens who do but the ones who don't seem to have major misconceptions over him and would probably protest to death over it. That, and I'm quite sure he's done submitting his image to any and everything. His time with WB should tell us everything else we need to know. Not gonna lie, though--I would have been the first in line had there been an edition just for him. I'd be throwin the little kids out the way left and right.

Eh. Any game that exposes young kids to music they would have never heard otherwise is alright with me. [Edited 4/30/09 5:32am] Agreed! That could be a reason for a kid to go and ACTUALLY learn to play the guitar. Diamonds ain't what I want of a man.If I love him, he don't need no checkbook. Prince said kids should actually learn how to play guitar. But it's a video game that people and kids play for fun. Some don't actually wanna play the real intrument, they play for the experience and fun of a video game. Like Prince said himself learning how to play the guitar was a frustrating experience and it is. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

i think when it comes to any instrument there's more than one way of learning.
the guitar being no exception. "connect the dots"

Ok. So here's my question:
If the game designers did create a game that did teach guitar playing, do you think Prince would give permission to use some of his songs? All 4 fun and fun 4 all

Only if the price was right. Why even mention that what they offered was too little and then try and give some BS story about learning guitar? By mentioning the cash first its quite obvious where his priorities lie and that's fair enough its his music he can do with it how he likes. To think he nearly sold a 7 cd sampling set of his music for $700 entitleing the purchasers to use his samples and never have to pay royalties.I wonder what made him change his mind! Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

WellInever said: That is too bad.
Prince takes himself too seriously (sometimes).Despite the fact that he has all right to do things the way he wants(and i respect that) guitar hero or not, whoever wants to learn to play WILL try to learn to play...guitar hero is a GAME, it poses no treath to real music, BUT,can be a TOOL / source of inspiration to kids who would never consider learning to play,it could actually ignite an interest in them to go out and seek higher learning. It's Prince's loss (my opinion). Also I get the impression that Prince will decide on something for the sake of just doing things opposite the "norm"...just to seem different. On many occasions his reasoning is just laughable, my opinion* .WEll ,he is Prince i guess.
