How most people view Prince (including his fans) Tuesday, April 28, 2009
Prince And Tavis Smiley While respecting his music and musicianship, I've always thought Prince to be both pompous and arrogant , so I almost didn't watch when the great Tavis Smiley interviewed the Purple One on his PBS talk show last night. I don't know what made me give this a chance, but I'm glad I did. Prince turned out to be a lot more normal and down-to-earth than I ever thought he could be and I actually enjoyed the interview a great deal (I must admit that I enjoy most interviews that Tavis conducts though). Perhaps my attitude comes from my only live encounter with Prince at Hollywood's famous Sunset Sound studios (where so many huge hits were cut in the last 40 years) in the mid-80's. I was recording in Studio A while Prince was camped out in Studio C. Sunset Sound has a nice enclosed basketball court, and during a break I noticed Prince out there shooting baskets by himself. I decided I go challenge him to a game, or at least shoot some hoops with him, when out of nowhere, a huge bodyguard jumped in the way just as I hit the court's entrance. "Prince don't want no company," he stated with a conviction that let me know there was no way I was getting in there, so I backed away and went back to work. Anyway, I have a way different view of the guy now, thanks to Mr. Smiley. Here's a short 2 minute portion of the show to judge for yourself. I never thought Prince sounded more batshit crazy than in this interview. Between the Black Panthers and JW's, his mind is swiss cheese.

Because, there is no way u have any viable or provable information to make a statement like ur thread does. u don't know how most people view him or anyone as far as that goes. Maybe u didn't mean to be rude, But the words u chose to write in ur Thread title is very deceiving and rude. Because its like speaking for other people without knowing how they really feel or think. It's not fair to most people and its not fair to Prince's Fans or future Fans and definitely not fair to Prince. [Edited 4/28/09 10:44am]

[Edited 4/28/09 10:44am] I think it's a true and fair statement there are a number of orgers who have a problem with the man's personal life .... The issue with the media making statements about him being so called "anti-gay" and legal action he has taken to protect his business brand. The problems with his faith as he's gotten older , which has always been apart of him , as much as the sexy lyrics of the past... Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..! The interview was fantastic, but let's be honest - Prince USUALLY isn't this down to earth in interviews. It's great to see him that way and very enlightening and entertaining, but usually he's a little stand-offish and obtuse. I wanna be loved to the 9s, so let me cover your ass with this sheet, and baby, you better stay on the beat! Cause you know the Karma Sutra? I can rewrite it. But, with half as many words.

Prince is a nutjob. Quoting a conspiracy theorist and non-scientist on chemtrails! And, advocating religious morality in politics! Well, do I need to say any more?

What do you do for a living to be so opinionated? Prince believes he is a musical prophet that has been chosen by Jehova to guide his fans to the "truth".

I try not to care how most people view Prince cuz they usually devalue him. Why? I could go on and on about the number of reasons, but I'd rather not.
Last night, I truly saw that I view him differently than the majority of the people here. They know his music well, sure. But they don't really know him as a person. Between his religion, his reluctance to "tell the truth" in interviews... I might as well delete my account cuz I'm clearly a cut above most of you guys. Cuz at least I dish out respect and try to see him & his work in more ways than just the obvious like/dislike... I could go on, like I said But even I have to work on my ways of criticism towards his work not that much of it is THAT constructive had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Well at least you got the "thinking" part right.....well done!.. You can't "care" about something you don't understand and to understand you have to think ... Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..! London 21 Nights...Clap your hands...you know the rest..

There are many people who don't/can't work who have some of the most brilliant and "opinionated" minds on Earth regarding different subjects.... Most of what I've heard people say in the last 5 years: Weird, gay, arrogant, nasty or "creepy"
Which doesn't bother me as much as when I sense folks don't get just how talented he is. Most don't realize that. It would be like knowing that Ron Jeremy is fat and hairy, but not knowing just how huge his cock is.

Brilliant and talented musician, but he's fucking nuts. He's always been odd, but as time goes by he comes across as less and less stable. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I don't care if people think Lil Dude is weird, creepy, gay, crazy, or anything else. Hell, most times I share those opinions. But when people don't or can't see how much real talent he has, THAT bothers me. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

But when they have no inkling of a clue as to why he leaves Madonna, MJ, and all his peers in the dust. Indeed, when they actually think MJ or Madonna have more talent....that's when I think his P&R really sucks.

I like the music he makes & my liking of him ends there. Of course I don't know the dude to really say anything like that but as far as my interpretation of him through interviews he is someone that I would consider a dick. Not all the time but then again people that are dicks have good days & bad days just like the rest of us. [Edited 4/29/09 5:14am]
