For some reason I had missed knowing he did this song. I finally heard audio of it quite recently. Then a video surfaced. I'm sure it was out, I just never knew about it. I realized it was (probably?) around the Coachella time. But was the performance in a sound check or something? Doesn't quite look like the actual broadcast.

Shed some light? Anyone? Bueller?

According to reports found on Prince.Org, before Prince' performance a fire alarm went off in the Jay Leno soundstage. Everyone had to be evacuated.

When given the all-clear and everyone was allowed to re-enter, Prince and The Band played Guitar and 1999 as a warm-up to Turn Me Loose while Leno's crew was setting up to start re-taping the episode.
