My initial thought was that he made mention of soundscan because of the ??? surrounding Lotusflow3r sales. Listenin to him I learned something new about the sales of albums. Damn!...the music industry With regards to him being miserable all the time...jus cause he said wat he said about record sales, that means he's miserable all the time? Dude just doesn't like the shit that's happenin and when one understands the runnings of the industry, I don't like it either! I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh

Soundscan allegedly reports manipulated sales data in North America and similar overseas tracking systems do the same in a collective effort to steal money from artists? I thought sales and charts were inconsequential to him. If this is such a matter of great concern why can't he press CDs and release them exclusively through Lotusflow3r.com?
I think he trying to come up with creatvie excuses for insignificant sales. [Edited 4/24/09 9:01am]

i so love it when those that have never been close 2 the industry and don't know all the ins and outs of how record companies shaft artists from their record sales speak up man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I have no doubt that there are a number of industry scams out there where artists get the raw deal…. But coming from someone who just charged $77 to log onto a website to download a $12 album ….Is that not just as bad?
I bet he would have sold 5x as many downloads if you could have logged on to the website for nothing and downloaded Lotusflow3r for $15

Great clips! Prince is sounding and looking well. I'm not a big fan of Tavis, but he does seem able to conduct a worthwhile interview with Prince. That's exactly what happened to me when I was 5-6 years old with Prince and the Purple Rain period. I was shocked that the man could talk! I thought all the man did was sing, stare and ride his motorcycle. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Maybe they are and maybe they aren't but it doesn't mean that they don't effect his business. We don't know the full story with that. Copycat said: If this is such a matter of great concern why can't he press CDs and release them exclusively through Lotusflow3r.com?
Cause not everyone is going to join his website but they still want the music. The lotusflow3r part of the org is a clear example of that. Copycat said: I think he trying to come up with creatvie excuses for insignificant sales.
[Edited 4/24/09 9:01am] But what if he's right in all that he's saying? The album just came out and is still in the top 20 so I can't see him trying to give an excuse for anything at this point. I could be wrong but who really knows at this point? Certainly not us. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

That is what is so often missing from tv hosts. As I don't know enough about the interviewers in the US, I can't comment on them, but I'd love to see this happen. A little UK promotion of Lotusflow3r by going on Jools Holland for a night, tearing the place up as only Prince can, then a one-off special with Parky coming out of retirement to interview someone he must have had an interest in. We can but dream..... Pleasezzzzz.....no parky .....Jools Holland can do the whole think by himself or Trevor Nelson ..... Uk orgers start push the BBC to do something with Prince ....damn they did Jay-Z ! I have to agree, as good as Parky is I just don't think he'd 'get' what it is about Prince that makes him so unique - he really wouldn't be able to put in all the research to do, what would be, such a special event. I'm all for lobbying the BBC, in fact I intend to do it straightaway. A Later special with Jools would be just the ticket, especially if they conversed. I also think that Trevor Nelson would do an interview justice, so I will mention that as well. I think that we should also petition Melvin Bragg about undertaking a review of Prince, the man and his music, in a South Bank Show dedicated to him. Anyone gonna join me? Is there anybody else who has slightly mysterious bruises?

Cause not everyone is going to join his website, but they still want the music. The lotusflow3r part of the org is a clear example of that. All the more reason why Prince should be offering a free membership website. Some fans are reluctant to join LF after the NPGMC debacle, legal threats and other fumbles that undermine confidence. He's talking about an audit of ALL his past record sales, not just Purple Rain, people! He used Purple Rain as an example. He's mentioned before that the investigation of past record sales has been an ongoing project in recent months, or years.

[Edited 4/24/09 11:08am] Well I will NEVER complain about anything being free but at the same time, what artist is going to have a site like that and it being free? In a perfect world, that would be the bomb but it's not happening with ANY artist, let alone Prince, regardless of all that's gone on in the past. Besides, even if the site were free, loads of fans would find stuff to complain about with the free site. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. The RIAA generally preforms sales audit functions for the music industry. In his mind I suppose they're deeply involved in the fleecing of artists too, especially him. Let me guess: all roads eventually lead back to Warner Bros, the bane of his existence, his former masters, the shadowy manipulators that still haunt him. [Edited 4/24/09 11:24am]
