In my humble opinion Lotus Flower is the best of the bunch. Mplsound is ok, and I agree with Nick somewhat. It can't compare to the origins of the Minneapolis Sound. But what I don't get about posters like Nick, and many others that post here is that if you are not feelin' it, why in the hell are you visiting and posting on a Prince related website?
For example, I think Soulja Boy or whatever his name is,is a freakin' clown and his music is horrible. But I don't have time to go to a soulja boy fan site and post about how much he sucks. Even artists I used to follow; let's say Michael Jackson. I lost interest in his music after Thriller, I haven't liked anything since then but I don't waste my time visiting MJ fan sites to bitch and moan about how his music sucks now I guess I just don't understand. If you don't like an artists music anymore or you think it sucks, why lurk on a fan site to talk about that? Things that I don't like anymore or "suck" to me, I leave in the past and have no time for and just don't pay attention to.... Sorry, just venting..... [Edited 4/24/09 23:29pm]

How insightful of u 2 comp[are his work 2 his older work and then claim it's the same as his recent...dull...
In any case u're dead wrong Prince has matured and if u don't like his direction eye suggest u follow Madonna's music or perhaps Ms. Spears may b more of a complete artist...mayb that's ur definition of music. Mine is a true artist who has music flowing thru his veins! 'v heard SO many bad things said of Prince that think we should rename Prince.org in2 IHatePrince.org 2 accommodate all those who detest Prince and everything he does. [Edited 4/26/09 14:55pm]

Personally I like the albums for what they are...Great new Prince music...Sure they don't grab me as much as the '80's stuff did but I was a lot younger then and that was the era that I first started enjoying music, i've followed Prince since then and i'll continue to do so and i'll always find classics that remind me of my younger days like "Reflection", "Colonized mind", "Lolita" and "The dance(3121 version)" I wanted what was yours, now I just want u 2 care

There's plenty of other bands and singers out there you could be slagging off, i'll see you on the Radiohead site, they ain't made a decent album since OK Computer. The radio is dead. Radio plays manufactured artist's music that all sound the same, not taking enough risks to the point that you know what to expect from them. That's the sad thing, what about some creativity and taking risks? I like artists who are not afraid to take that extra step, not just crank out a one hit single and it's played on the radio for 2 months, possibly 1 month, and then who the heck remembers the song after 6 months? Most of these artists last a year and then they have greatest hits albums the next year. You mention that he doesn't get airplay anymore? That's because radio stations cater to stepford artists, the manufactured ones whose music all sound the same. They're the ones that killed "real music." Your teenage daughters apparently grew up in an era where they may not even know what real music is, only what the radio throws at them. Lotusflow3r cd is a breath of fresh air compared to the garbage some folks call music. Of course no one expects to like an artist's entire album, that would be unrealistic. But I blame mainstream radio, they play to a particular demographic, not taking enough risks in introducing different forms of music by the various, talented artists out there. It's the same type of BS music by manufactured artists being played all day. I rarely listen to the radio. I put music I like hearing on my mp3 player, as I can't take radio playing the same dumb sh*t all day, music from artist hat is very predictable. Most of the best artists' music aren't played on the radio. Problem with radio these days is they need to play catch up and learn how to diversify, like they did back in the day when they actually played a variety of music on one station, and didn't stay on "stuck" in the new music department. If radio stations are only playing only one type of music to the same demographic, then that's all that demographic will be used to hearing. [Edited 4/26/09 16:16pm]

Haze, u r flippin' awesome for quoting "Hello," 1 of my favorite all-time Prince tunes. Nick, I asked my cat--Rebel Ution--if you were in the least sane and he said, and I quote, "Nyet". No lie: whenever you tell him to get down from somewhere he isn't supposed to be, rebel shakes his head and says "nyet." So, Nick, get down from wherever you and your highhorse are and sniff some reality.

I wouldn't say it sucks. But, Nick ought to be able to share his feelings about Prince's music -- probably his favorite artist, given his account here -- without being disrespected or asked to go elsewhere.
You hear a lot about critical "haters" in this forum, but this thread is proof of how intolerant Prince's most rabid fams can be.

Is there no one in his life that will be honest with him about his music. uh....no... They all say "yes".
Everything sounds the same now or he goes off in these jazzy bluesy riffs which have never worked for him. Doesn't 1999 and Purple Rain sound the same? It's what he is doing now...it is what he likes.
The last album that was consistently good was 3121 and Musicology. Both albums were good...I agree but that's just our oppins....right? The next guy will say they both sucked.
While the album may not have been marketed properly, the CD actually made him relevent again somewhat. It did????? It helped Clive lose his job...LOL
Is there no one to say to Prince, your single choices have been horrific?? I'm with you....
I am sure you all have seen the Box of Chocolates Video- OMG---that doesnt make any sense no matter how much you drink or smoke.... Not with you...I thought the video was tight.
Dont get me wrong i have been a Prince fan for 30 years beginning in 1979 with I wanna be your Lover, i've followed him through every band change, name change, outfit change, label change, music club change, experimental phase change.....but in the future (?) I think i have earned the right to complain as what I see as a sad state of affairs. You do...and hopefully no one hear ripped you one for doing so. Seriously nickgso whether u appreciate some of our sense of humor or not..people are always going to make smartass comments to something that is posted around here whether it be possitive or negative. Its easier not to post anything at all if u dont want to read the
Im a big advocate of people saying whatever they feel about something and I certainly dont think we all have to feel the same way...I like PE..people give me a hard time about that all the time around here ANd I cant hear the song solo without my ears protesting...I get told off for saying that too But at the end of the day we all have different tastes. I don't agree with all of what u said...but I bet my bottom dollar very few people around Prince tell him anything but what he wants to hear and even if someone was honest with Prince about what they think about his music...that dosent mean their "honest" opinion is going to be the same as ure's. They may dig everything he does and that is their honest feelings on the subject...where as u honestly don't like it. So once again its just different opinions. U just can force people to think the way u do But as as AUssies say " Good Onya" for being honest PRINCE IS WATCHING U " When an Artist Creates, whatever they create belongs to society"

And for those that may remember, i think Clive had the right idea by pairing him with contemporary artists and producers in RAve in2 the Joy Fantastic Album. While the album may not have been marketed properly, the CD actually made him relevent again somewhat. He blamed the label but he himself bore some of the blame since this was his confusing TAFNAP(sp) days. I know for him it may not be about the radio play or album sales anymore but i find no joy in his music.
I thought I would NEVER EVER say id rather listen to one of the current formula acts rather than Prince. But that day has come for me at least. My teenage daughters were loving the older stuff and I was trying to create my own new generation of Prince fans but when my daughter heard Planet Earth she said... this sucks Dad..and when i purchased the new CD at Target and we played it several times she said and i quote "what happened to him, it is the same old sound." Is there no one to say to Prince, your single choices have been horrific?? I am sure you all have seen the Box of Chocolates Video- OMG---that doesnt make any sense no matter how much you drink or smoke....and just to get it all off my chest....There is obviously no one in his life that has a say to edit his music to make it coherent, crisp and radio friendly. We get 6 min meandering songs that might be better if tightened up to 3.45. He has the freedom now to write and distribute whenever he wants to...but i wonder if this was a good thing or not. Sometimes having parameters to work within makes you better.
