We get 6 min meandering songs that might be better if tightened up to 3.45. He has the freedom now to write and distribute whenever he wants to...but i wonder if this was a good thing or not. Sometimes having parameters to work within makes you better. Dont get me wrong i have been a Prince fan for 30 years beginning in 1979 with I wanna be your Lover, i've followed him through every band change, name change, outfit change, label change, music club change, experimental phase change.....but in the future (?) I think i have earned the right to complain as what I see as a sad state of affairs.

While a fan since 1979 my first Prince concert was in 1983, Prince the Time and Vanity 6. Followed by 1984 of Prince and Sheila E. Those were exciting times for sure. I will forever be a fan but my comments still stand. Been a fan for 31 years - since Soft and Wet. Dude, you're entitled to your opinion that's for sure, but the album doesn't suck. I'm not as fond of Mplsound as the 4 or 5 good ones on LF, but I'll just disagree with you here. How bout that? Welcome 2 the rat race!

I agree with him in the sense, that Prince does not respect all his fans very much. The new albums have still not been released overseas (Except via the website, with its admission prices steep for poorer OECD countries and third world fans in Latin America and Africa) and when they finally are they are going to be at hiked prices (Ie for 3 full CDs, and no choice for those who don't want Brias CD), whereas the USA fans gots theirs on March 29 at a reduced price. What have foreign fans done for this snub. Every other album arrived at the same time as the USA (Except the first two, as he wasn't known out of the states), and now we have to wait 6 weeks later.
Plus judging by the griping they are not even worth the wait. Why can't Prince acknowledge and respect his fans, instead of trying to exploit them all the time, extorting money oyt of them for substandard albums and expensive marketing ploys (Eg Mediocre books and CDs, Prince Opus etc), and then shutting down fansites, videos and any depictions of him. I am starting to think we are all brainwashed by this imp. So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

His marketing strategy has more to do with the music industry these days than it does his fans. He knows we can get the music for free so he is forced to change.

[Edited 4/22/09 22:02pm] [Edited 4/23/09 21:40pm] Hey all I can tell you is that imho this is his best work in sometime and far surpasses Planet Earth to me. There is just a joy to the music and the lyrics that I really really like. I find it to be quite accessible and enjoyable on many different levels. Most importantly he really seems to have his swag back. The albums aren't preachy but really deliver a message. I thought Musicology was a solid effort but I don't listen to it much. I do still listen to 3121 because that is a good record but this Lotus is on some next level as far as I am concerned. Listen to the joy of $ or the aggressiveness of Dreamer, the unbridled fun of Feel Better Feel Good Feel Wonderful!! The playfulness of Valentina and the acknowledgement of his own mortality with Better With Time. What can I say I love the CD. THE CARDINAL HAS SPOKEN!!!
