so i'll just keep the 3 cds they way they were released as they r thank u  Prince has always been one of these el cheapo 30-45 minute album guys. To me an album should last at least an hour, not this 9 or 10 song shit. MPLS is 9 songs, to me thats more an albumette than album. For someone who writes a lot of music he loves Maxi single, ep sized albums. I think a good artist should have at least 14 full length (No skits, or yo yo beatdown crap like on rap albums, or metal guitar solos)songs on each album. If Prince gives you 12 that is a miracle. He has a history of short players 4U and Prince - 9 songs each, Dirty Mind and Controversy 8 songs each (and 1 is more a skit than a song) 1999 11 songs but a double album, but at least they are good length Purple Rain and ATWIAD 9 songs Parade 12 songs but one is a skit (Venus de Milo) and the first three are all 2 minutes long. SOTT has 16 songs but again 2 disc Lovesexy and Batman are 9 song wonders GB has 17 but only 9 are Prince and a lot is filler Diamonds and Pearls and Symbol, both are good length, but contain a lot of filler and the latter has segues and skits counted as songs Come 9 song wonder GE Better theres 12 on this one but silly NPG operator segues ruin it. C and D 11 songs a swizz Emancipation, better length, each CD has 12 tracks and run an hour. NPS to TRC These albums all have generous length but content is not very strong Musicology 11 songs (Hmm and short) 3121 better 12 songs, but only 47 minutes long PE Only 10 songs and again under 50 minutes New albums, Lotusflow3r has 0 songs and MPLS only 9 what a swizz, Greatest hits albums have been more generous at least. So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time | |

Many of those albums were released in the olden days of polyvinyl acetate.  Much consideration had to go into song placement and length per LP side. Certain instrumentation sounded better on the outside of the record than the inside. Songs were intentionally left off the record to maintain quality of sound. Since Prince was so prolific, there was usually some contention with Warner Brothers when Prince wanted to release multiple disk LPs.
Arguably, Prince peaked creatively in the mid-eighties, so it would stand to reason that post-vinyl, there would be some filler or shorter records. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot. | |
