It's more like "Bowfinger," where Eddie Murphy plays a hotshot movie star, and his dorky twin brother pretends to be him. It's a good metaphor for Prince, actually. Eddie's movie star character is paranoid, and he's dependent on a controlling cult to calm him down. And the dorky twin brother, that's like Prince's hidden true self.

There is a Bruce Campbell movie called "Bubba Ho-Tep" that is almost exactly like this, except with Elvis as the star.

The real Elvis is tired of the limelight and needs a break, so he hires the world's best impersonator to take his place for a while. The only two people who know about it are Elvis himself and the impersonator.

The impersonator dies publicly before they could switch back, and Elvis himself then becomes his own impersonator to make a living.

The Prince conspiracy would've been better if Prince had refused to record new music, and instead only wanted to perform live. This would explain why his live work has gotten better with time, and why he rarely plays any songs from his new releases . . .
