Prince & Loneliness

Okay this may be my dumb thread for the year, but here it goes lol When you look at Prince in photos or onstage do you in your heart feel that he's lonely? I realize that he probably has everything that a human being could want, but still seems alittle alone sad With so many relationships that have gone by the wayside one has to wonder eek With just the things that us fans are allowed to see do you feel there is a possibility that he feels this way? Okay you may throw brick 's at me now lol

I wonder about that too, I mean he has plenty of women to occupy his time, but it often seems that he is still looking for the one, I hope that someday we see Prince happily fulfilled in his romantic life cool

I dont think so, I feel that Prince is too in love with his music to really give the love that is needed to be with a woman. I think that is why a lot of his relationships have failed in the past. He loved all of his past lovers and wives but not like he loves his guitar! Not that its a bad thing.

I agree with this observation.

I think the reason he performs live so much is to be the center of attention and to be adored. Even when the main concert is over, he continues to an afterparty. I'm sure most of this is the love of music, but it seems like he doesn't really ever want to go "home".

Plus I wonder if he's cautious about people liking him for him, and not for his money.

I agree-the after party's never stop. I'd never looked at it this way, but it does seem that he never wants to leave and go home eek

I never looked at it like that. You may have a point. I remember having my heart broken by a girl and staying out as late as possible because when I was at home without distractions, my mind would drift back to her.

I've read a lot of Prince's life and childhood and I think he has always felt alone, even when he was with people. It must have been a hell of a thing to have to live in someone's basement when he was a kid, then beg your father to let you come home and be told no. Have you seen the 'Somebody's somebody' video. That shit is REAL. confused

Prince's best and worst friend is himself. Women end up boring him. His band members are his friends, and we know that rotates frequently. I mean...who is Prince's long time friends? He ain't exactly calling up W&L, or Fink, or Z. I doubt Mayte or Sheena is ringing him up saying "What's up lover man?"

Prince's music used to be his friend. He had quality AND quantity. But now his music is like that person you keep around just so you don't feel lonely. It's not the best person, but they fill the spot for now.

Prince undoubtedly feels the loneliness that goes with not being an ordinary person. I mean...everyone feels lonely at times. But there's a special kind of loneliness that is part and parcel of knowing that you are living an experience that no one else can truly appreciate - because there's no one else on your level.

Put another way...it's lonely at the top.

Just to add to the topic of loneliness,

I think a person needs to spend time alone

in order to grow, or sort out problems,

I think sometime ppl avoid their problems,

when they are always around others this can make it hard to focus

For whatever it's worth, I've had two significant dreams in recent years where I was around or with Prince at Paisley Park and another undetermined location. In each of the dreams, he was much lonelier and much more fragile than many people would expect. I know a dream's a dream, but these were very vivid and tactile. I've had a different impression of him ever since.

I don't think he knows how to let people in, you know get too close to him. he probably never will at this stage in his life.
