Prince, please stick to music and stay away from politics or (especially) science. There is nothing thought provoking about it; it is just plain silly! Hear hear, he is a fantastic musician but intellectually challenged.

colonized mind is epic! it's sung from his heart & captures his genuine brilliance!
the lyrics are wanky & obvious, & a wholelotta other stuff all at the same time...makes this song very interesting. it's his opinion....he's 'just sayin'..! it's dadrock approach & the tuffprince attitude he's giving out always does it 4 me. his vocals are just stunning, take me 2 another place it's a stunner, loved it immediately [Edited 4/17/09 5:51am]

I love the bass going off at the very last 30 second chorus.
And the live sound is what Ive been craving for. It's so Hendrixian yet still Prince to me too. Sounds truly inspired and not like the recent material i.e. searching to make pop hits. He stretched a bit here.

It's an updated 'Sign O' The Times' !!
except..... 'Sign of the times' had a super cool bass line, drum beat, lyrics, guitar playing and sound, melody and vocal delivery, overall track mix. No comparison

I don't care if he puts his religious or political feelings in songs. I am an atheist, but I really enjoy some of his religious stuff (including "The Cross"). Here is my problem with Colonized Mind: 1. First of all, he is making false scientific statements. I guarantee that Prince knows nothing about evolution except that it contradicts his religious beliefs. He is not qualified to discuss science, so he should leave it alone. 2. In terms of his political statements, I don't care if he makes them, but he should stick to opinions. I doubt that Prince understands the difference between 2 party systems, multi-party systems, or any time of system for that matter. The fact that he equated it with fascism proves this. Fascism actually means something. There is no correlation between 2 party systems and fascism. I have a background in political science, so this is a pet peeve of mine. BTW, Prince has been able to make an awful lot of money (doing some pretty racy stuff) in this supposedly fascistic society. I abdicated the throne in Ithaca, but now I am...

Just one more quick note, Prince is alot smarter than some of u think. Just because you know alot doesnt mean ur a good song writer. I just feel some of u so called fans have nothing better to do than criticize somebody other than doing good for others or just being a positive person. Treat people as u wish to b treated is what I was taught. I just hate to hear all this bull about somebody people obviously are intrigued with or they wouldnt b here. God is Good! Its no wonder there will b no chat or forums in Lotus. Peace and love Love is whatever u want it 2 b

stop admonishing people if you don't want to be admonished. you're bringing the negativity and it's likely to be reflected back at you. it's time for a new direction / it's time for jazz to die

Prince, please stick to music and stay away from politics or (especially) science. There is nothing thought provoking about it; it is just plain silly! i agree with this. he's too saturated with his religion. he basically also says in this song (in jw fashion) that ppl are idiots for voting. his lil purple ass wouldn't have what he has now if it wasn't for the rights we all have VOTED for! punkass.

The song is little more than plodding, easy listening dad rock with capable guitar work by Prince. The lyrics are uninformed and removed from reality. The great humor in this song comes from the title as Prince is the epitome of a colonized mind. He's been herded by his religious elders and now thinks, acts and says what they deem permissible. Fine enough, it's up to the individual, but to then write a song called Colonized Mind where you display a feeble grasp of the world at large and not only are willingly following new rules set down for you, as well as attempt to preach to your fans that they should do the same, the results are nothing short of laughable. No hard feelings.

Yep his two party criticism is disingenuous as his underlaying JW motivation is for no voting at all. Then theres the anti-single parent stuff about children with no respect for authority etc, leans havily on "The theocratic order". Every last utterance is filtered through and attached with dogmatic propaganda these days. Who genuinely gets behind this religio-conservative babble? The praise for the lyrics is astounding.

The praise for the lyrics is astounding. the lyrics are vague enough that people are able to inject their own beliefs into it. prince sounds confident so when they see themselves in the lyrics they get to feel confident like prince. it's how pop music works in general, but in this case we have the added insight into what we think prince really means (jw stuff). it's time for a new direction / it's time for jazz to die

bigbrother said: Is it just me or is this song one of the best things he has recorded in the last twenty years? It's got that rare combination of cool guitar, a memorable melody and chorus/refrain, thought-provoking lyrics focusing on the wider world and it builds to a powerful crescendo. Although many have said they find the lyrics a bit hypocritical at least he seems to have crafted a meaningful SONG as opposed to a cool groove that he just jams on and apparently improvises some lyrics (Bria anybody?).
It's a bit of an updated 'Sign O' The Times', only slightly more judgemental and shows Prince to be quite an articulate guy. Btw who's playing drums on 'Colonised Mind,'Wall of Berlin' and 'Dreamer'? It's so true that this happens to be one of the best songs that he has done in awhile. The whole thing is great. Someone said it was honest and I agree.

I didn't know it until I heard it, but I've been waiting a long time for this song. even though I don't agree with all of its philosophical debate, it provokes thought, and the music is sublime. Def a Sign o' Today.
