recent songs that can go alon with his classic material

some fans like to say that 80's was the decade
when prince made his best music.
but even if prince's 90's and 00's output
didn't reach the standards of what you consider
to be his best music, what songs from the 90's and 00's you consider to be up there with princes best music:

these are some of the recent the songs i consider to be as good as any decade of prince music
that can be classics:

guitar
i hate u
peach
dolphin
i like it there
saviour
last december
1+1+1=3
pfunk
fury
the dance
family name
a milion days
musicology
lolita
come on
the one
wasted kisses
five women
shhh
these songs are great and up there with his best songs in my opinion
what would be your choice

This thread is desperate. Not that Prince hasn't made decent songs post 1988 or whatever. But rarely does he hit it across the board: great song, great production, great performance. Usually he misses something and a number of the songs on your list have that problem.

that is a musical elitisam what you say.
its a classic line "this stuff is good but it ain't
funky as it used to"-prince said it on song everlasting now
i agree that prince recent output as a whloe album
maybe wasnt good as some of his earlier work but prince
still makes great music.
album like rainbow children is much much more then some
tired fusion work as some orgers would say .
it's amazing soundscape and narrator voice isn't at
all annoying.
that album can easy be the best prince album ever,
of course opinions are diffrent and everyone have rights to have one
but a lot of stuff orgers say is much more to be cool.

im sure even that bart van hemelen guy listens to prince old and new albums.
im sure you spin his new albums also.
and prince still makes classic material.

if purple rain was unknown song along with another unknown song last december
which one would you like more???

Classic Prince Songs:

When Doves Cry
Little Red Corvette
1999
Purple Rain
Let's Pretend Were Married....
Just a few....
Your list doesnt have 1..song that could be the above 5..

FURY, IMO...is the closest.

Some people seem to hold up everything P did up to 1988 as 'Classic' material. Well, I've got news for you, he recorded occasional crap back then, just like he did in the 90s, ....just like he does now.

Now we could argue all day about how much and what kind of crap. That's fine; that's taste. But I get the distinct impression that as time rolls on, some orgers have less perspective on the 80's and can no longer make a rational judgements about comparing tracks from certain decades.

It seems that if a track was recorded during the 'Classic' period, it already has a head start on anything that proceeds it. Not by virtue of it's quality, but simply because it was recorded before, or @ 1988; So it MUST be good.

typhoon tip... prince had some weak songs on his first album in 1978. From 1979 to 88 Prince was at his creative peak... Dirty mind, 1999, Purple Rain, Sign of the Times... I would put parade and ATWIAD against anything from the 90's forward. Prince's b-sides and unreleased stuff from the 80's speaks volumes to the legend that he would become. I'm still wating for "all my dreams", "old friends for sale", "a place in heaven", "moonbeam levels" and so on 2 be finally released one day. It's long overdue.....Bobby

songs that are over 15 years old are not 'recent.'
it's time for a new direction / it's time for jazz to die

recent (last five years) classic songs:

reflection, from musicology
the word, from 3121
future baby mama, from planet earth
$, from lotusflow3r
everytime, from elixer
another boy, from elixer
elixer, from elixer

i think these songs can stand with his pre- '95 work. that is to say, if that prince had recorded these in his then- style, i wouldn't have necessarily leaped out of my seat and declared that an impostor was present.
