Prince in the Studio (1975-1995): Volume One; by Jake Brown

Wanting 2 B the 1 2 drop some kind of new news 4 us poor & middle-class fans, I was digging up 4-1-1 on the other Jason Draper book entitled, Prince Chronicles and found this and thought I'd let U N on a new book 2 B dropped on June 1, 2009 via Amber Communications Group, Inc.
Prince in the Studio (1975-1995): Volume One (Paperback) by Jake Brown (Author).
It's 184 pp. 4 the completists and wannabe completists.

Product Description
Offering an inside look into the multigenerational career of a funk-pop superstar, this definitive, exciting study of Prince’s musical catalog grants behind-the-scenes access to the writing and recording details behind such massively successful albums as 1999, Diamonds and Pearls, and Purple Rain. From the Purple One’s preteen mastery of the piano and guitar to his proficiency with 31 musical instruments at the time of his record deal—when he was merely 19—and proceeding through the 1980s when he was one of the biggest stars on the planet, this retrospective features interviews with former band members, studio engineers, and childhood friends to form the most complete document of Prince’s creative endeavors to date. The full stories behind such hit songs as “Little Red Corvette,” “When Doves Cry,” and “Kiss” are included, plus additional facts to help round out this fascinating exploration into the exciting, influential, and sexualized hybrid of rock, pop, and funk that can be exclusively attributed to the artist known as Prince.

I sincerely hope this is of high quality, on par with Uptown's work, and not the usual half-assed thing you usually get.

do these so called writers always go out of their way to pick the worst pics of prince for their covers/. Surly to God if you were trying to sell to as wide an audience as possible a more appealing picture should be used. Anyway I'll pass on the book, what else is there really left to say or comment on from that period?, all the key players have said what needs to be said, it's all old news thats been comprehensivley covered several times.

The book is only 184 pages. That's not really enough to make something interesting about 20 years of Prince music smile

For once, I'm not excited about this book. And the more I hear about it, the more I'm like confused to it.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

We've all read about Prince's life. We all know about Owen Husney, Francis leaving the piano behind, living w/ Andre and his mama, Chris Moon, shopping a record deal, being shy at his first gig, etc etc. blah blah. I hope Jake Brown's book offer insight into the recording process. I hate that Per's DMSR stopped at Lovesexy. That's when it got really good!

It's the studio stuff, the documentary of the music type stuff that I enjoy. I'm not a Hanson fan at all, but I was fascinated watching their Strong Enough To Break documentary about making a record that took years, because their record company kept rejecting songs (almost 100 total). Whether you're a fan of them or not, it's a great docu to watch and learn about the ins and outs and politics of the record industry.
