5yrs (almost)... It all started at Arrowhead Pond, Anaheim CA, May 24, 2004. I think that date is right. It was the Arrowhead Pond Musicology performance that turned my world purple. [Edited 4/11/09 13:48pm] Help others get ahead. You will always stand

In 1979, I was at our local Target, and while looking through records, I came across a K-Tel compilation called Soundwaves. I wanted it because it had "funkytown" from Lipps, Inc. on it, as well as "Let's Get Serious" from Jermaine Jackson and "Upside Down" from Diana Ross. My mom bought it for me. Then I hear this weird guy with a high voice singing "I Wanna Be Your Lover". His pic was on the back of the album, and he just looked odd to me. From then on, I was totally into all things Prince.
By the way, I now have TWO copies of Soundwaves on vinyl. It was never issued on CD. But I have recreated the track list in iTunes, so I can still listen to the album as it was in 1979. I put the track listing on my Last.FM page: http://www.last.fm/user/e...from_k-tel Here is the track list: 1. Diana Ross – Upside Down 2. Lipps, Inc. – Funkytown 3. The Spinners – Cupid/I've Loved You For A Long Time 4. Jermaine Jackson – Let's Get Serious 5. Prince – I Wanna Be Your Lover 6. Meco – The Empire Strikes Back 7. KISS – I Was Made for Loving You 8. Pat Benatar – You Better Run 9. Robbie Dupree – Steal Away 10. Rocky Burnette – Tired of Toein' the Line 11. Pure Prairie League – Let Me Love You Tonight 12. Captain & Tennille – Do That to Me One More Time 13. Air Supply – Lost in Love 14. Ali Thompson – Take a Little Rhythm 15. Benny Mardones – Into the Night

Became a fan in 1984,but after ATWIAD I drifted off for awhile (1986-2007) I knew of certain songs, but did'nt really buy anything, and then last year, one night I was in my room looking through my CD's trying to find something to listen to,and came upon the Purple Rain soundtrack. I hadn't listened to it for a long time so I threw it in the player, and instantly fell in love again. I then got on the computer to see what other releases he might of brought out since I listened to him,and that's when I found the Org,and quickly realized how much music I missed out on,and I don't plan on drifting away again. Since around 1983 (I was 8 years old then) when they used to play the videos for "1999," "Little Red Corvette," "When Doves Cry," and "Let's Go Crazy" on MTV. Used to watch MTV all the time just to watch those videos. "1999" video is STILL the bomb... All of that early exposure to his music, the videos, and the Purple Rain movie had a profound affect on my life....
26 years later, I'm still a hardcore fan! [Edited 4/11/09 13:59pm]

Since 1982? I was 15 or so. Heared P in a club (my cousin would sneak me in to clubs w/ his bands when I was underage so that I could see them play- back then drinking age was 18 in NY so wasnt all that hard to get away with. Most club owners didnt care back in the 80's- they didnt have all the undercover busts back then where they would send underage in w/ fake ids trying to bust clubowners for letting in underage patrons... at least not until the mid 80's did they start really doing that). Fell in love w/ P's music immediately, and had to race out and buy his music just to lay eyes on the man who let out such sexy squeals, and sang w/ such passion about such taboo subjects...

So 17 years. Me too, but I knew who he was before that, I was just not allowed to listen to him to much before this. I don't have time to listen to new music, I've got too much old Prince to discover. Classic example : I was at club Nokia at the midnight show and didn't know "In a large room with no lights" . . . my bad Prince
