what to make of Elixer

Hey, what do you think Elixer will be like? I think it'll be odd getting a Prince album with a disc sung by someone else. Any hopes up for it? Stuart

I'm looking forward to it, especially going by "Here Eye Come". Others on here will bitch about it though. I see it as a bonus at worst. I have all of the related artist CDs, so it will be a welcome addition.

It won't really be any different to any other 'protege' album.

I think it's a mistake boxing all 3 together, but at least it's cheap. It reminds somewhat of the 3CD Newpower Pak, which was cheap in a different sense.

Exactly. I can't really balk at 3 CD's for 12 bucks. Certainly Bria's would have been a hard push to sell. I suppose asking for folks to pony up for even 2 cd's would have been hard. I hope it's 3 separate cases etc.

i think it won't be seperate cases. it won't even have individual artwork.

i expect it to be a gatefold cardboard kinda like planet earth but even
cheaper. without a plastic tray but with 3 seperate slide-pockets for 3
discs.

here's to hoping he will put a tracklist on the package or some info at
least instead of it all being just internet based.

because one of the reports said that the albums have online art. so that
makes me think that the packaging will be cheap as possible.

"What to make of Elixer?"

Hmmmm? A Blue Peter ash tray? Or maybe a nice shiny tea coaster 4 U're Nan? Well, it can be anything U want really. Although I'd say that 2 avoid the inevitable disappointment, just don't use it as a CD. wink

Do you mean a "hard sell to push"?

The last few CDs have all been digipaks (Musicology, 3121, Planet Earth). It's ecologically more responsible - less plastic, less weight (which relates to cheaper shipping too).

Some of the newest covers use recycled pop-bottle CD trays (they're kinda flexible). I'm more about the actual CDs than the packaging.

Planet Earth had a cool online lyric PDF - I imported that into iTunes and it's just like the Digital Booklets they offer.

One thing that would be nice is to have different artwork for every track, kinda like NIN did with Ghosts.

Maybe I read it wrong, but are we sure we're getting all three discs for twelve bones? Or is it gonna be that price for each?

Obviously, I hope it's the former, but this is Prince we're talking about afterall.

I think it should be spelled "Elixir."

It's definitely all 3 for 12 bucks.

As for the larger question of packaging: I suspect that it will be three seperate digipacks (with minimal info) housed inside a slipcover.

But we'll all see soon, won't we?

The song obviously wouldn't have that title or lyrics if he had sung it instead.

the only (non) prince album that I didn't dislike that prince had to do with was that Chaka Khan album with NPS, and I wouldn't really call a Chaka album a side project... I could stand a great deal of that.. other than that, I try to avoid any of those horrid albums.

I will say this, from what i've heard.. I enjoyed the "sound" of that elixer album (the few i've heard).. but not into that chick

I agree with KWms31.

Prince can change the lyrics to "Another Girl"

I'm going to treat it as a seperate album. Not Prince, but not necessarily bad either (at least, not until I hear it and judge it for myself.)

I hope that in most of the other songs, Bria doesn't sound as strained as in Home. That would be a big bummer. neutral
