Prince Pines for Salma Hayek on New Song

Call Prince an international man of mystery if you'd like, but on his new song 'Valentina,' he's absolutely clear on who he's singing about -- actress Salma Hayek.

The track is sung to and named after Hayek's 18-month old daughter, whom she had with her husband, French businessman Francois-Henri Pinault. Depending on your interpretation, the words to 'Valentina' are either a tribute to Hayek's beauty or, well, an overt declaration of his desire for her. The Purple One sings, "Hey Valentina, tell your mama she should give me a call/ When she get tired of runnin' after you down the hall/And she's all worn out from those late-night feedings/and she's ready for another rock and roll meeting." He then goes on to tell the child how hot her mom is, talks about her curves and how everyone wants her. If that's not a MILF, then we don't know one.

The attraction isn't just something Prince developed from watching 'Frida' or 'Desperado'; Hayek directed the video for Prince's 'Te Amo Corazón,' the first single off 2006's '3121.' Should the romantic plea not work out, he also adds a line about Hayek's best friend: "If Penelope wants to Cruz there ain't no way that we ain't gon' dance," he sings. Unfortunately for Prince, Penelope Cruz is currently involved with 'No Country for Old Men' star Javier Bardem.

I immediately loved this song. He should have a video with her in it to promote the song. I wonder if he wrote it while her and her baby daddy were split for a moment and then got married and Prince still liked the song and kept it and put on the new disc. That song is the jam.

As if a devout Jehovah's Witness would covet another man's wife on record. Shame on those who planted these ungodly rumours.

Duh, so, what is the song about then?

There are lots of things Prince does that a "devout" JW should not be doing....doesn't stop him though, does it?

I don't get all the pining and perving comments. I didn't hear all this when Cindy C was released on the BA. I believe this is just a pop tribute to a hot actress (which amounts to great marketing) and not some long declaration of hidden lust and desire.
Who ever said Prince has lost it - has lost it. The Kid's still got game!

Neither do I - its far less overt than CindyC (where its blatantly all about the hip action!) and is more of a tribute from one great artist to another. But, like with most of Prince's best work, the lines are blurred and multiple meanings are possible. Prince stays just the right side of being respectful in this track - if you were Salma's husband, there's nothing there to be particularly offended about, its more funny and flattering than anything else. But, at the same time, he is still "coveting another man's wife" and the lyrics could easliy be interpreted as Prince wanting to get it on with her!

Respectfully, I see your point. If one were to take the lyrics to this song literally then Prince is coveting his neighbors’ wife. While I don’t immediately jump to that connotation I guess I have to agree and admit that this song could lead others across that line into covetousness.

His music has made me for one covet my married neighbour's ass. Should he be allowed to keep making music if it implants impure ungodly thoughts in the listener? Sometimes he strongly hints at cursewords, then I'm the dirty one for having them in my head???
