Prince 2002 : I get it NOW ! I just received ONA live (UK, North) and have been playing it while I work.
Until this moment I didn't get what Prince is about these days. This is a different depth of music from Prince, it has a more mature organic sound to it, and it isn't as insistent or urgent as old school Prince. When I received the live Days of Wild CD it reminded me of the Prince music I loved back in the 80's and 90's. It had a ferocious pulse, and I couldn't stop listening to it. It was like the live medley he used (in the 90's) that starts with 1999 and goes through various song snippets including DMSR, America, Pope, baby I'm a star, etc. I think that maybe the old Price that I'm hanging around for has gone for good. I dont mean that in a bitter or negative way, just an acknowledgement that the man and the music have moved to a different place, and it's not necesarilly a place I want to follow to. But peace to all those who do. I did enjoy parts of Rainbow Children, and ONA Live is a "nice" CD set, but not "blow you away" return-to-form quintessential must-have Prince live release I had hoped for. Just my personal opinion. I wish the man well, but I know that I am going to be playing other CDs much more this coming year than I will ONA live. FandangoUK | |
