I don't think that's such a bad thing. No matter what side of the argument a poster may be on, it's pretty undeniable that Prince has been a pioneer in marketing his music through the internet. Nevertheless, he's not the only one doing it, and other artists (such as the ones you mentioned) are doing some pretty interesting things too.
Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

Yes, but why is it a bad thing that others bring up what some other internet pioneers are doing? Prince seems like he's one of the few artists out there who could take notice of such a thing.

Because he wont. And all it is is basically stating "prince sux, why cant he be doing what so n so is doing"

I can see if things werepresented in a different manner but mostly the other ideas presented and the way they are presented are meant as put downs. I know some yahoo is going to say "No, we state it becasue we want Prince to be better" bullshit but anyone here knows that even if Prince gave every fan 1000 dollars there would be the ding dongs talking shit.

i take offense because i do want prince to get it together. i dropped out of prince fandom for a good ten years because i didn't think it was going to happen. (and, i admit, because people were being so damned 'positive' about everything that was going on circa '98-'99 that i damn near couldn't breathe.)

here's something positive: i really like 'elixer.'

Well your history is diffeent from my recollection because in 98-99 Prince hate was at an all time high what with the suing of websites debacle and the release of NPS lol

Oh and the Prince You Are A Sorry Negro thread.

And Elixier is a nice release once you listen to it a few times.

no the predictable ones just hate on everything as a whole. they talk ill on Prince, his music, his business style, the way other artists are and how he should be like them, and the list goes on. It's never anything nice. Just people with high expectations that can't give credit where credit is due. Planet Earth was my least favorite Prince album and I did not once post on here how great that album was. This project on the other hand is the next best thing Prince has put out since The Rainbow Children so in my opinion I feel he made more of an effort to please fans like me cuz I'm pleased. Others will hate regardless but I'm used to it.

'98 was when the first major tidal wave of 'prince is perfect' people really seemed to flood the beach. after surviving the war with wb, some of us felt pretty battered by all of these folks showing up telling how wonderful the sweet taste of prince's abuse was. cool it didn't matter what prince did, either you loved it or you were declared a traitor.

i got really tired of reading through argument after argument about who was a real fan and who wasn't because they still ate meat in spite of prince's lyrics, because they didn't like kirky j's drumming (didn't you hear? prince is trying to de-emphasize drums in his music!) etc., etc., etc. it was really nuts for a while. (in my opinion, of course!)

earlier in the 90's we had our struggles but i don't recall that level of testing going on, day in and day out, about whether or not you had the simple right to speak up.

in short it was not worth the effort. i miss things like cb's "chocolate religion" website, the long threads about egyptian symbolism, people coming home from paisley park shows and uploading concert boots the night after the concert happened. i miss sonny t getting on aol chat and slipping in cracks about prince.

in my opinion the positivity police really damaged prince fandom.

i'm sure i know who you're talking about. biggrin

but you have to realize, he's one of the biggest prince fans on the net. prince set really high expectations for himself up until the name change. i don't think a lot of people ever quite forgave him for o(+> ultimately failing to live up to prince's standards.

given all the stuff that happened to prince on a personal level in the 1990s, it's probably not fair to judge him so harshly. but he does still operate in the public arena, so it's to be expected that fans will have opinions of what he does.

by my reckoning prince told the truth. he died in 1993. everything after 'o(+>' is gravy.
