LotusFlow3r? Did it satisfy your desire for a Prince Rock album.

I know a lot of Prince have been wanting him to release a rock album for a long time.

Alot of these people had hopes LotusFlow3r would be that album, so did it deliver for those who really wanted a rock album.

I suspect that there will be more than a few who think he didn't really deliver that album.

I think the album is great, don't get me wrong but I was wondering if people would have preferred 12 tracks of out an out guitar rock rather than the inclusion of Funk with Feel Better and $ and the pop rock of The Morning after and the jazz lite rock of Love Like Jazz and the oddity that is 77 beverley park.

Well Yes and No

Yes because the album is really well done, and perhaps one of my all time favorites ever
and No because I can't get enough of Prince in any form, rock or soft, I have a thirst
for sexy symbol dudes that nobody else can quench

Pretty much.

Though i agree with you on the songs that should have been left off. FUNK and No More Candy 4 U, would have fitted better.

I love that Prince has some rock songs on the album. I'm always satisfied with the style that Prince spreads out on his projects...There's always a little bit of every side of Prince Music. cool

Rock album? my short answer is: No.

Crimson & Clover is a great rock song, but it's a cover so does it count?

then Colonized Mind and Dreamer are great too, the rest is not really rock, imo.

YES.
i'd been bitching for probably ever about how with Prince being one of the most underrated guitarists in history, he never really shows off his skills on record.

I wanted an album where he just played the f-ing guitar.
Lotusflow3er does that. In spades.

My thoughts exactly, I think he really delivers on guitar both albums. MPLSound has some great and to the point little guitar solos too. Very nice!
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

just because C & C is a cover does not mean it isn't original,
Prince put his own twist on it and it takes a strong artist to out a their own stamp on a classic

Prince has really made it his own,
I got love for it
and I got some more love for Prince too

i agree the major thing that has jumped out at me about the new albums is that there is a little bit of a lot of different styles on there. i cannot think of a better representation of all the different styles and genres that a masterful musician like Prince dabbles in

Why wouldn't Crimson And Clover count, it's a great version.

Would you say All Along The Watch Tower doesn't count on Electric Landyland?

I've never desired a rock album from Prince, but I'm satisfied with Lotusflow3r as an album.

Romeoblu

I personally think every track is great. I get a real Jimi vibe from the first 3 tracks and I think he should have put Colonized Mind after Crimson and then returned to that vibe and ended it with Wall Of Berlin, Dreamer, Back to The Lotus.

But i love the non rock tracks as much as the others.

My top 5 would be

Boom
Love Like Jazz
Wall Of Berlin
Dreamer
Feel Better, Feel Good, Feel Wonderful

I'm never satisfied. I always want more.

However, 'Lotusflower' is a quality album, so I'm very pleased. I appreciate the warm tone of the guitar, the heaviness of it and that the production is minimal. No synths or cowbells.

'The Undertaker' is perhaps the best example of a 'straight' Prince guitar album. 'Lotusflower' still has other styles on it, although rock is dominant.

No. It's NOT a full on guitar album. It's guitar oriented, yes, no argument there.

But for a real Prince-fucking-our-ears-with-his-guitar record, I go to The Gold Experience. Listen to the solo in "Gold". It's fucking epic, and one of the best solos on official release since Computer Blue or Let's Go Crazy or Purple Rain. "Peach" is under estimated for that too, I believe. If Chaos were whittled down, it could have been a great bonus EP for TGE. Just about five or six songs total (at VERY most), and included as a freebie. THAT would have been a great rock set of music. But Lotus? Eh. Good, but pales when played next to TGE.

I really don't get the enthusiasm for 'Crimson & Clover.'
But then I've loved the song for 30 years or so . . .

Is it the great Prince rock album? Not in my opinion. I would love a power trio type album from Prince that had raw sounding songs and obviously lots of guitar with no piano or keyboards. Lotusflow3r is a bit too clean sounding for my tastes. I think it's a great album but not necessarily a great rock album.

I wasn't dogging it at all. I said it helped to satisfy my desire to hear Prince do some rock.

I quite like Planet Earth.
