I love both albums, but one line from Chocolate Box is sticking in my craw... It's the line "so what's the deal, are you gay or poppin' pills" - is he using the word "gay" like I think he's using it, as synonymous with stupid? If not, what other reason would he have to say those words - maybe he's just using the phrase to do the "I'm still hipper than today's youth" thing, but I had to take that song out of the mix (plus I actually find the song a little too gimmicky - having Q-Tip rap, having the big screen with him on it - kinda cool, but kinda dorky)...
But back to the lyric in question - what do you think - is he doing what I said he's doing?

I think of the "are you gay" as like.."she must be a lesbian if she won't ge with me" type thing..I may be wrong but that's my thought. U can cut off all my fins - But 2 your ways I will not bend
I'll die before I let U tell me how 2 swim And I'll come back again as a dolphin

That's it! I agree, don't "over-read" this one. Wake up!......Wake up!

I think it's just what it says, "r u gay or poppin pills?" My interpretation is that he's chasing the girl, she seems to ignore him and he's wondering if she likes women instead of men. I don't sense him wondering if she's stupid or lame, the other "definitions" that seem to be attached to gay nowadays. Nothing offensive, well at least this gay man here isn't offended. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I also was wondering about this and was going to create a topic about it, but it looks like you beat me to it. I hadn't considered the "must be a lesbian if not interested in me" thing though. That's probably what he meant.
