But, to be serious...I'd put it in the conversation with D.M.S.R. anyday!! I think folks are too busy trying to compare Prince past and present! Instead, we should be listening and judging his music as a whole without categorizing it in terms of time, you know? I mean, come on! the "1999" album was what...some 27 plus years ago!! Sounds change. Attitudes change. It's part of the natural evolution of us as human beings. I mean, do you dress now the same way you dressed in the 70's? Do you wear your hair the same? Of course you don't. Why would we expect anything different from Prince and his music?

"Ol Skool Company" is just as funky as anything he's ever done (IMO, of course)! I dig it a lot myself...

Thanks you, Agreed~!

It's like I said in another post, that it will give you that face if someone farted in an elevator and that's word!

A future Prince classic?! D.M.S.R. with a hint of Parliament.

Yea, pretty nasty Funk.

Nothing Prince has done since has ever been able to touch "D.M.S.R." especially post 1998.

I agree..

maybe that's not fair.

It's not. Not at all.

at this point the kind of plastic r&b he loves to put down is old school. eek

dude started on his 'what ever happened to real musicians' thing over twenty years ago. biggrin

tell you what. let's get back to the good ol' days of the 808 cowbell. biggrin

* doing * <- 808 cowbell sound
it's time for a new direction / it's time for jazz to die

cos they can't get out of the 70s, sick of being "retired" and can't update themselves? i know man.

Well this is a song dedicated to them so, it should all be good! Ah but, you got a nice modern synth beat to back it up...damn...that aint good for them.

it still feels like "Ol Skool Company" could be on New Power Soul. It shows how using the Camille like vox - lifts up a track like this and gives it a funkier vibe.

This is the best Camille track since "Feel u up long stroke", Contemporary, and fresh with a catchy funky chorus. Unlike some of the posters i am happy that the song is as long as it is. Best song on the album by a country mile!

Yup, agreed. I am not impressed at all. Terrible, amateur lyrics. Not nearly as good as the old stuff, but trying to sound like the old stuff. Absolutely horrible.

It sounds more like the shit that Dr. Dre and Snoop Doggy Dog was doing in the early 1990s. Hell, that ain't modern. It's 2009, not 1993. Did the music of 1989 sound like the music of 1972? No it didn't. So who's stuck in the past....the new generation. They refuse to change and leave the past.
