Can you imagine how disappointing it must have been for Q-tip when Prince played him the song he wanted him to rap on .... seriously! nice to see some hate for this song.....i wanna say it is filler but since there is a video out, it may even be worse than filler

I disagree. Q-Tip is a legend, too, and I like his work. However, I think the song itself is one of the weakest on the set. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

I have to disagree. I think Q-Tip's rap flows seamlessly with the song and adds a lot. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Chocolate Box is a disaster of a song allready: Prince going into Britney / Fergie-modus, trying to copy soulless hit-parade pop, and failing.
Q-tip isnt to blame here, i think. When you have a song that is allready shit, its kinda hard to do some good job on it as a rapper. [Edited 4/4/09 16:27pm]

Believe me, I wish this wasn't so, but it is. If all you know is the rap, rock and hip-hop of the last 15 years, then you'll see it differently from me. But if you've been around, you know what I'm talking about. Look at this as a challenge - if you're a musician or a fan under 30, DEMAND more from your generation. We're not any smarter than you guys, we just were raised on better music. I wish I could tell you what happened, but all I know is it happened. I agree with this post. Even though I was born in 1980, I was raised on music from the '50's and '60s and I remember the '80s (my toddler years) very fondly for its music. I stopped listening to radio regularly around 1994, and since then--with a few notable exceptions--music has gone to the crapper. In my opinion, the majority of hip-hop is awful--but again, there are exceptions. JMO https://www.youtube.com/@PurpleKnightsPodcast

I really like chocolate box, especially the lyrics, didn't even know Q-Tip was on til I saw the video, which I don't understand by the way, the rap didn't hurt it for me and I grew up pre-rap myself. I don't know just because something has rap in it doesn't automatically knock it out the box for me. Rap in and of itself is alright it's just another art form, it's just the lyrical content of the more popular or the biggest air played rap that's the problem. mmmm...chocolates

His rap fit the song well. I'd much rather see him than Kanye or Lil Wayne on a track with Prince, even if the latter 2 would help it sell more. I agree with you!! Q-Tip is iconic in Hip Hop and his new album was definitely on point! He brings back REAL hip hop and allows us to take a break from the crap that is played on the radio these days. No matter what others are saying, I feel this collaboration between Q-Tip and Prince was GREAT!! And personally...I like the video as well!!

I'd rather Prince left the genre alone, but to write it off in the way that the two of you have is pretty sad. You sound like parents in the 50s, damning Rock and Roll as noise. I know, and I regret it. But I grew up on real rock and real funk in the '70's, and since about 1993, music in almost all genres has taken leaps backwards. While it may true that mainstream music, the stuff that's selling and charting the most, has declined in quality, to suggest that music itself had declined is ludircious. You may have to put in some effort to find the it, but trust me, music that is as good or better than the stuff you grew up on is being still produced today.

despite my earlier entry on this thread, I'm now listening to the song and I think the video ruined it for me but I like the song on it's own. I can see how it could used in a club. The Q-Tip rap is fine altho nothing to write home about.

For those who don't like Q-Tip on this, would you rather have TC Ellis or Tony M do the rap? I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

this song repeatedly because beyond his contribution there isn't a whole lot going on here that is worth going back to imo. worst song on the album, by far. she want a b-o-x of chocolat every day. Have you heard anything so gay? ok maybe I'm old or out of touch, but I don't get the (that's so gay) stuff (I'm really not being smart with you on this but can you explain that to me? how that line is "gay") To my understanding "gay" is a social/culture connection revolving around people with same sex attraction
