OLD FRIENDS 4 SALE ...NO MORE RE-RECORDINGS PLEASE PRINCE

just listened to the original version of old friends 4 sale and it still sends shivers up my spine...wonderful stuff.....which got me thinking....i hated the version on the vault album...none of prince's re recordings have worked , have they?....maybe argue about 'the dance' but i dont really like it and i dont understand why someone so prolific as prince has to go back to old songs and mess about with them...please ...no more prince...leave them alone

There's already enough demo versions for one thing. Which version is your favourite? #1, #2, #3 etc?

I agree, I like to hear new songs, not rehashed recordings.

First of all the music is not your creation. If prince wants to make 10,000 versions of purple rain that is his right.

Second that song (old friends) is a bootleg and u should never have heard "the original" version. So that's not Prince's fault.

Thirdly just because there are other versions of a song that doesn't destory the version u like. It is still there for your enjoyment so what's the problem?

Fourth u have no idea what version u are listening to. It is the first version u heard. It may really be version 23 or 15.

fifth. I like both versions of the song. I like what u say is the "original" version the best but come on the difference between them is not so great that one is a masterpiece and the other shit.

RE: Re-recorded tracks. I can't say I listened to 'Ur Gonna C Me' that much on ONA, but I like the MPLSound version, and then there's The Dance, same for that.

Then there's, you know, the unspeakable one.... 1999. lurking doody

The answer is simple:

Don't listen to, buy, or trade bootlegs and you'll have nothing to bitch about. As has been said, you were not really supposed to hear these songs anyways.

I don't know, I think that song was released by Prince as a promo only for the Under the Cherry Moon movie. 104 WDKX mainstream radio station played it all the time. I had it on tape by the 2nd time I heard it.

Many people said EXACTLY what u said when Prince released "We Can Funk" on Grafitti Bridge in 1990 after people had heard the previously bootlegged 1986 version.
What we learned later, though (thanx 2 Per Nielsen), is that the track originates from 1983 and that the GB version actually is a slightly updated version of the 1983 version (while the '86 version is totally rerecorded & features totally different arrangments.)

lol lol

Yeah, I probably listened to the Dance when it was originally released during the NPGMC days 1 or 2 times at most. Didn't really appreciate it until the rerecording.
Change it one more time..

Now from Graffiti Bridge, Tick Tick Bang just shouldn't have been changed/updated/messed with..
The original with that New Wave feel is just electric
the 'hip hop' remade version is just not an upgrade

as was said b4, The 1981 version wasn't ever released & u should never have heard it & besides it surfaced in 1995, i.e. FIVE years after Prince rerecorded it. When he did he had NO WAY 2 think it would EVER emerge & there4 u might NEVER have heard the song AT ALL.

Just thank God 4 having allowed that great outtake 2 surface when it could never have at all.
