Sounds like a boot from the early 80's "Wouldn't U Love 2 Love Me?". I don't remember the lyrics like that, but the chorus is the same.

..yes ma it is a bootleg..but i just don't know the name EXACTLY..or the era..it is such a cute song though..

It wasn't from a protege, it was just a girl who recorded on Paisley Park named Taja Sevelle. Her self titled album was releases in 1987 or 1988 on the then-newly formed Paisley Park label. She covered Prince's old demo "Wouldn't U Love 2 Love Me". Prince originally recorded the song in the very late 70's or very early 80's.

No, Prince has never recorded it himself. If I could find my
DMSR book, I could find the date and era it was from but I'm pretty certain it was very early on, during the PRINCE album days, or possibly DIRTY MIND. It's a very old song. As far as I know the only version recorded is by Taja Sevelle. Thinking back, I'm pretty sure it was released in 1987. I remember being in the military in Philadelphia, and finding that CD. I still have it on vinyl today. It's a good album over all, and her version and the style of the song is indicative of the feel of the whole album. She had a minor single with "Love Is Contagious". There's a 12" remix of that out there somewhere, as well. I think that Prince lending her that one song was the extent of his involvement on the album. It was the same thing as when Good Question recorded there. They were on the label, but had no real Prince involvement on the record (and they didn't even have a Prince song on their CD).

..WOW!!..thanks 2 all for the info..i never heard the female version of it..i hope 2 hear it soon..but the original from prince is too good!!..mayb prince might reconsider and record it again or better yet put it in the new website or something..cuz the copy i have is kinda messed up towards the ending parts and it drives me nuts
