it was my understanding that billboard policy was that sales are counted from tuesday to monday with tuesday starting the week.since prince released his cd on sun..it still counts for that week doesnt it.or rather will be reflected on this week online charts.

BORDERLINES

• The No. 10 album this week, Martina McBride's "Shine" (RCA), sold 41,000.
• The No. 10 album for the same week of 2008, Sara Bareilles' "Little Voice" (Epic/Sony Music), sold 31,000.
• Average total of the No. 10 album for the same week of the year during the past 10 years (2000-2009): 63,150.

Sunday sales definitely count for this week, so Billboard or Target should give us an explanation.

All kidding aside, Capitol Nashville country star Keith “Don’t Call Me Mr. Kidman” Urban’s Defying Gravity does just that, with the New Zealand cowboy chalking up between 160-175k in first-week sales, good enough for #1 on next Tuesday’s HITS Album chart.

The total is compiled from one-day reports from those retailers whose stores are still open out there in this recession-racked land of ours.

NPG’s main man for all seasons Prince is up next, with his three-CD $11.98 Target exclusive (alongside online sales at his newly launched website) resulting in a total between 130-140k, good for #2.

Actually, that's not bad at all if U add to the fact that this was an independent release. Besides the Leno, LA concert appearances, and Target advertisement, no support from the music industry whatsoever, radio, MTV, nor record companies. His 1st week sales easily eclispes that of Planet Earth by a good 40,000. Funny, some thought this thing was lucky to sell 50,000 in the first week.

Selling between 130-140K is pretty darn good at this point, given the situation. However, I think he or Target will definitely have to do more to keep it from dropping big time over the next week or two. I hope they do. I'd like to see it go gold like 3121 did.

i don't know too much about how much profit he would realize, but it seems pretty good to me, at least better than i thought he would, how many orgers are there anyway? I know some of you bought several copies each.

Can anyone in the know estimate if these sales can offset the production of the cd and marketing, or will he have to tour to make back his investment.

It costs a pretty penny to get something like this on the market and it looks like he is putting his money where his mouth is with those concerts videos, web site, commercials and the Leno show.
So boys and girls ease up on the bitching of his youtube and litigious ways, it costs money for the dude to entertain you kids and try and make a buck.
