it was my understanding that billboard policy was that sales are counted from tuesday to monday with tuesday starting the week.since prince released his cd on sun..it still counts for that week doesnt it.or rather will be reflected on this week online charts. [Edited 4/1/09 9:53am]

Nope next weeks chart and it should make it to number 1 easy ....look at this
MARKET WATCH • Album units, current chart week: 6.7 million units • UP 10% from last week's charts: 6.1 million units • DOWN 12% from same week, 2008: 7.7 million units • This week: The top three albums each sell more than 100,000 copies. • This week last year on the Billboard 200: Day26's self-titled album entered atop the list with 190,000, and Panic at the Disco's "Pretty, Odd" started at No. 2 with 139,000. Counting Crows' "Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings" debuted at No. 3 with 106,000. The previous week's No. 1, Danity Kane's "Welcome to the Dollhouse," slipped to No. 4 with 89,000 (down 62%). Sunday sales definitely count for this week, so Billboard or Target should give us an explanation.

HitsDailyDouble predicting Prince to be #2 next week with 130-140k!
All kidding aside, Capitol Nashville country star Keith “Don’t Call Me Mr. Kidman” Urban’s Defying Gravity does just that, with the New Zealand cowboy chalking up between 160-175k in first-week sales, good enough for #1 on next Tuesday’s HITS Album chart. The total is compiled from one-day reports from those retailers whose stores are still open out there in this recession-racked land of ours. NPG’s main man for all seasons Prince is up next, with his three-CD $11.98 Target exclusive (alongside online sales at his newly launched website) resulting in a total between 130-140k, good for #2.

Actually, that's not bad at all if U add to the fact that this was an independent release. Besides the Leno, LA concert appearances, and Target advertisement, no support from the music industry whatsoever, radio, MTV, nor record companies. His 1st week sales easily eclispes that of Planet Earth by a good 40,000. Funny, some thought this thing was lucky to sell 50,000 in the first week. [Edited 4/1/09 15:19pm]

Selling between 130-140K is pretty darn good at this point, given the situation. However, I think he or Target will definitely have to do more to keep it from dropping big time over the next week or two. I hope they do. I'd like to see it go gold like 3121 did.

considering the number of copies displayed in or shipped to each store, it's probably safe to assume that it's already going to qualify as a gold record. the chances of it SELLING that many copies are slim, though.

I take it you mean he'll be certified Gold but not sell 500K? I hate when that happens. However, don't those situations also involve record companies "influencing" the certification process? He's got no record company per se.

i don't know too much about how much profit he would realize, but it seems pretty good to me, at least better than i thought he would, how many orgers are there anyway? I know some of you bought several copies each.
Can anyone in the know estimate if these sales can offset the production of the cd and marketing, or will he have to tour to make back his investment. It costs a pretty penny to get something like this on the market and it looks like he is putting his money where his mouth is with those concerts videos, web site, commercials and the Leno show. So boys and girls ease up on the bitching of his youtube and litigious ways, it costs money for the dude to entertain you kids and try and make a buck.
