Radio Airplay, I got nothin'...

So after giving all three discs a serious listening too I've come to the conclusion that none of these will ever get any radio play.

Now surely someone thinks I've got it all wrong so, wise-orger, which track will should we enjoy on the airwaves and why?

I think some should get 'airplay' but I believe you are correct. Just due to the way Prince is marketing and messing with the 'industry' it will be 'skipped over' by DJ's and larger market radio stations owned or partial owned my music labels. My vote for air play is 4-Ever, Dance 4 Me, Crimson & Clover, Valentina, Chocolate Box, Colonized Mind, Dreamer.....those IMO are the strongest tracks that would appeal more to general public.

There is a handful that should get airplay...as is with all of Prince's cd...

I think that Prince should release "No More Candy 4 U." If it didn't go anywhere...I would just think it was the same ol' political red tape jazz of the music businezz. cool

There are several cuts that are radio-friendly. I think the problem lies in

whether Prince chooses to try and push the singles. And again the major

problem is the bridges he has burned in the recording industry. I don't think

his age and image are a major factor. There are some fantastic, very catchy

tracks here.

It seems that Prince burned another bridge with AEG on Saturday night by calling

them out.

We'll see what happens. Perhaps the videos can lead to exposure and

programmers may choose to pick up the tracks.

Good luck! I hope you can pull this off. As it is not released as a single,

I think they may need Prince's permission. Not sure about that though.

i am thinking there are a couple of quiet storm songs on Ps discs...

i think elixir will be a top quiet storm song. bria has a couple of great songs that should get airplay.

Ps stuff... on what station??? not our r&b. i wish. but all they play is boom boom boom same as it ever was not hatin' but mixed in with lil' wayne music.

we need a radio station that plays real music. with instruments and stuff.

sigh. i wish it would happen for him, but i don't see it. hope i am having tunnel vision.

nod I agree. She rocks it.

Prince's version is nice, but I don't like the changed lyrics, or the addition of the "Wild Thing" portion.

There are a good number of single-ready songs on here but radio is so corrupt now, there's no way you'll find new Prince music on the radio anytime soon and that's real sad. It would do nothing but make me happier than a pig in shit if I heard that Dance 4 Me was played on Z100 (top 40 radio station in NYC) or Chocolate Box was played on Hot 97 (Hip-Hop station in NYC) or Dreamer played on one of the few remaining rock stations here but I'm not holding my breath. Get ready to hear Little Red Corvette played for the millionth time again. Sad but true. sad

I was thinking the same thing. Its a shame because both cds are GREAT. I think "dreamer", "wall of berlin", and "crimson and clover" could get airplay on rock stations but do these stations accept Prince as a rock artist? Adult R&B (quit storm) stations play slow R&B ballads and oldies. "Here", "U're Gonna C Me", and "Better with Time" are good ballads but they don't exactly fit into the adult R&B format. I think Bria's cd has the best chance for these stations. Then, there is the Hip Hop/R&B stations which cater to young R&B artists and gangster rappers. I think the songs that should get airplay but will not are "dance 4 me", "no more candy 4 You", "$", and "feel good, feel better, feel wonderful".

Thus far, no songs from the albums have officially gone for adds on radio in any format. Perhaps that will change later.

You know, I can't say which songs I really like, I still need to hear them a few more times before I can say anything.
But good or bad, it's a fact that Prince gets absolutely no air play. This is pure boycott. Every shit of Madonna or Michael gets played to the max. The newest song of Depeche Mode, the Cure, REM, Britney etc.
It's just not fair. The jewels this man has made in the past and the impact he has had on us, this is just no way of treating him.
And this is not me drinking purple cool aid because the 3 cd's don't make that much of an impression on me.
But it's ridiculous that no-one here knows that he has 3 new cd's out.

btw I like Valentina a lot.

highfive

I totally agree... there is SO much that should be played aside from his standards... I'd love to hear the reaction if anything from C & D or Gold or whatever would get played... just to hear what regular, non-fams think of some of his work...

Valentina is a gem in the rough for sure... wink

That's not true at all, 8 out of 10 Madonna singles in the past 6 years were ignored by US radio. Also, Michael hasn't put out anything since 2001, so I don't see why he got mentioned here.

No artist above 40 get massive airplay with any of their songs, radio stations are pushing the likes of Rihanna and Taylor Swift, the currently hot artist who are able to score multiple radio hits.

Also, Prince does not have a label who could push the tracks to be played. People who think radio DJ's decided to play a certain song because they like it or because it has "hit" written all over it should think again.

Then come on over. Every song that Madonna has brought out the last 2 decades is on the radio and tv. I'm a big Madonna lover (music that is) and she's everywhere, I switch channels a lot, I see her, I hear her and I'm fine with that.
Now that you mention that Michael hasn't brought out anything since 2001 and I hear so much of him on tv/radio, that annoys me even more.
Don't get me wrong, I also love Michael's work and I hope to hear him for a long time on the radio but Prince belongs up there too, he's the most talented of them 3, such a great catalog.

Prince... the occassional boring Purple Rain and that's it. No video, no new or old song, nothing. I understand that he has to have someone behind him to promote him but so many random old songs get played on the radio and just no Prince. No money don't matter tonight, no Most beautiful girl in the world, no Mountains...

He has 3 cd's out, trust me, nobody knows. The least they can do on the radio is play a few out of curiosity or just to tell people he has a cd out. People around me ask me if he still lives.

When Maddie and Michael got 50, 2 full pages in the newspaper filled with pictures and reviews etc. When Prince got 50.... absolutely NOTHING!
The editor of the paper said I was totally right but no-one felt like doing something and that's just the whole trend.

They started boycotting him a long time ago.

And about artists above 40.... I hear U2, Madonna, Depeche Mode, Celine Dion, Kylie, REM, the Cure (for crying out loud, Robert Smith with the lipstick still around his mouth), Bruce Springsteen etc, they are past their thirties.

You all are right about radio stations kind of boycotting Prince, but I actually got to ask Prince about this in person several years ago. He said the lack of radio play is mainly because they charge well over $100,000 just to get a song played. That's why these labels are kind of important for new artist, because they'll spend the money for the airplay. I still think it's a good investment for Prince, but I didn't say that to him. He has the money, so he obviously doesn't care. Trust me, if you're hearing a song play repeatedly on the radio, it's because someone paid a whole lot for it to be. So sad, right?
