$ is classic Prince.

Nobody talks about this song. What is wrong with you people?? lol

This is right up there with Little Red Corvette, Purple Rain, When Doves Cry!!

The chorus is perfect. He actually has original verses. It is flawless and complex. Doesn't sound clunky like the other tunes. Doesn't sound forced.

Do u people have fricken ears? lol horns

I was JUST about to post the same message.

$ is definitely the stand out of the whole 3 discs for me.

Love the song. Can't stop dancing to it.

Composition-wise it doesnt measure up to something like 'In all my dreams', but soundwise it reminded me a lot of those 'late' Revolution tracks: the outtakes of Parade, the material on The Dream factory.

Rather quirky and playfull: i like it more then the restrained quasi-wisedom on a song like Colonized mind.

I still didnt get this tune. I LOVED LOTUS flower but i cant relate to this as being classic prince. I dont know why it reminds me of the album THE VAULT - . But ... i didnt like very much when doves cry when i first heard it too, I thought it was dull. maybe it will grow on me, cause songs I instantly love i soon forget (baby knows, if i was the man of your life, so far so pleased), while there are songs i take time to like and later they turn on my favorite ever list (when doves cry, computer blue, i hate you, erotic city..).

The song just played about two minutes ago and I was thinking the exact same thing! In fact, I said to myself, "They'd probably die on the Org if I told 'em that I think '$' is up there among his best songs ever" lol

Far and away my fave track on the whole set. It's so damn catchy its ridiculous. I love Lotusflower as a whole but this is the track the second it starts I turn up the volume. Haven't done that since Shy.

I'm loving this track too, and rather pleasantly surprised to see it getting positive comments. Their wasn't much love for its closest relative, which is actually "Courtin' Time" on Emancipation. I happen to think that's a great track too, but it seems to have a pretty small fan club.

Your comparison with those 3 songs made me think for a second that you're taking the piss, but I guess you really dig it. Glad even you found something here to enjoy. lol Love it myself.

camille ?

the vibe of the song?

the whole album screams UTC/Parade IMO. the entire sound feel and vibe.

From the first listen (having already heard Colonized Mind, et al), " $ " has been the standout cut. Agree wholeheartedly, this is classic Prince... parts of it seem almost too simple a melody, like 'somebody must have done this before cuz it's SO catchy'...but its the Prince-ness that makes it work. The funky, undercurrent and easy, flowing Camille-ish vox just ride it so dayum right! Been on repeat since the first download, lol. When he plays it live it's gonna be LIVE.

I was praying to hear it at the Conga but can't really complain biggrin

Ok but heres the thing... Prince didn't use the Camille voice on Parade

The vibe of the song sounds more like a 50s rock & roll vibe but with a Prince/funk edge

I do here some UTC/Parade vibe but thats more on tracks like Love like Jazz, 77 Beverly Park, and the opening track Into the Lotus.

$ doesn't give me that vibe at all.... but doesn't matter. Like I said we both can agree that it works... and sounds great! biggrin

Again don't agree although I love Lotusflower it doesn't sound anything like Parade to me. Its not nearly as experimental nor does it feel art deco like Parade

It is a very unique collection and vibe as collection IMO. Not at all like anything else he has done as an album

Lotusflower has a much more commercial sounds and thats Ok too... just much different than Parade and much more accessible to a larger group of people

This song proves that Dansa is full of it..lol

It has a forties vibe and some are right that it doesn't really sound like a Prince song. He must have been mackin some Frank Sinatra at the time. Or I may be dissapointed if I hear it was a reworked song from the 80s..lol I do want at least one new song to be killer. Gives one hope.

There Will Never B is the anti-$, a pure piece of crap..lol

excellent right on target... thumbs up!

It very much has a 40s or 50s swing vibe just with some Prince Minneapplos bottom. Its a song that would be very accessible to radio... but because its Prince we won't hear it there. Thats too bad but doesn't mean we can't enjoy it much the same!

Alexander, I hear you... that's why I said 'Camille-ish'...it's got a little Girls & Boys flava vocally, but that's just one component. I also hear the rock and roll (which would make it a really interesting single, I think), but for the mixture of pure breezy funky openness...the freedom and frolicking cocksure and yeah a sprinkling of that young Sinatra/Darin flava but not overdone vibe, all that comes to mind is Parade. Love Like Jazz has a later feel to it for me, but again I think I can see where you're all coming from. I don't think it's just the music really, but the overall feeling..if that makes any sense.

MAYBE, just maybe... it's a Lotusflow3r vibe lol

Definitely my favorite single track of the last, oh, let's say 20 years. It's got that Kid Creole sound that I go nuts for.

Eh, I don't know about that. I love Dreamer, $, Feel Good...and I can see how they have a certain Dream Factory-era sound, but nothing else really reminds me of that era. More Rainbow Children.
