Add Sly and I think that'll just about sum it up.

lol The day Prince creates a new song that everyone on the Org loves is the day I sell my kidney.

That's not what it's about. Everybody doesn't have to love a song. Prince's strength used to be his ability to write melodic rock and funk. Dreamer is alright, but greatness it ain't! "Old School Company", or should I say "Musicology", has the same flaw. It's real easy to write riffs, chants, shout-outs and what not. Especially when you are at Prince's level of musicianship. My question is where is the song?

Sir, "how dare you" (C) Bill Clinton lol You do make alot of valid points about Prince's issues with songwriting these days. It's not memorable and it's not really connected to any real emotion, imo. It's sociopathic in nature. (I know alot of fans are going to screech at that. But it's really obvious in his ballads. Like we are supposed to feel sorry for a deluded artist who always has to blame it on someone else other than himself? douchebaggery at it's highest)

There really isnt anything for me to spin twice. This has happened ever since Emancipation. (However I did play Rainbow children multiple times I think because of the sequence from track to track) I will spin these albums maybe once or twice. And never have the desire to share people with Prince music. I might share someone with the link to Dreamer for the guitar solo but even that is phoning it in. Everything from throwing the guitar up in the air multiple times to making the same tired faces he does at every solo. It all seems so lamely calculated in attempt to impress people.

I don't think that means anyone is hating. I just think funkstrr is coming to a conclusion that Prince can't connect with listeners who will spin his material repeatedly. His material doesn't have anything really relatable or sincere. That is the problem with alot of Prince's work it's insincere. That is why alot of people can't connect to him like alot of artists out there. Truth be told, people are already forgetting about Lotusflower,MPLSound, and Elixir they have no idea about that project. This Lotusflow3r project is dead in the water already.

You know Prince is trying to pander to you when he talks about box of chocolates,Talking to Valentina in attempt to hook up with Hayek, lying on his bed, calling someone on the phone or having a glass of wine. It's kind of sad really. I don't think Prince has any idea how insincere and artificial it sounds.

It's kind of sad that he doesn't have the gift that The Beatles have. Which is to connect to the listener on a universal emotional level. Lennon,McCartney,Harrison were geniuses at that even with their solo material. With Prince, you just don't believe anything is there. Which makes his material really disposable. I think alot of people are in agreement with the statement I just made. Just afraid to admit that Prince is a master at disposable material.

I think you're often too extreme (almost Bartvanhemelen-esque) in your critiques of Prince... but the whole thing about a good amount of Prince's recent material not connecting emotionally, I think has merit. (I think a lot more people would "hear" what you're saying if your posts were couched not so cold and dismissive, but that's another point altogether... )

Anyway, it's something that I think we were getting at in this thread also

http://prince.org/msg/7/301593

I especially liked what Padawan had to say.

I do think that some of Prince's recent material DOES seem sincere and conveys emotion in a way that resonates, but I do agree with you in the sense that while Prince has clearly gotten more and more technically proficient at playing and producing, his songwriting seems to be growing more and more distant.

That being said, I like Dreamer cool

....It's just a little TOO Hendrix. confused

Better than not even trying at all lol Great track. Wouldn't it have been something if this was the building block of the album? Imagine the places he could have gone.....

Yes, definitely some "Sly", there's no way you couldn't hear that sound. Hot buttered coco-rock, with a twist of funk and blues that would make Jimi and James rise from their graves. Let's not forget he had some Chuck Berry and BB King all up in there too, while dropping some "Gil Scott-Heron" with the message in the lyrics.

it's much better live. as soon as the cowbell kicks in on the recorded version it loses a few points on my scale. i just wish he would be more willing to put the guitar with the programmed drums more ala let's go crazy and darling nikki.
