Surprisingly great track! It, also, captures that sex/religion vibe that he had going so well in the 80's.

AMEN AMEN and AMEN! I must've played this song 10 times today. I love it from start to finish. I want the world to hear this song, it's THAT good. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I was thinking the same thing earlier tonight! It's like he'd been trying and coming close, especially in the last few years but he FINALLY got it right with this track. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Right! ...and I wouldn't be surprised if the previous efforts were a case of trying too hard. This sounds like one of those great songs that just popped into his head "as is", if you know what I mean. It sounds effortless. [Edited 3/25/09 20:34pm]

He's not trying to convince the JW's, he's not trying to convince us, he's just doing him and it shows on that song. [Edited 3/25/09 20:42pm] I'm not a fan of "old Prince". This song is a synthetic bore. The lyrics are as contrived as pop lyrics can possibly get. Just when you thought Chocolate Box was the bottom of the lyrical barrel, he gives us: 'I like it when you dance it gets me hot. I like it when you shake what you got. I like it when you dance because you're so sexy. I like it when you dance for me.' Seriously? Those are your lyrics? And you're not 13? The break down with the limp, repetitive order to: 'Dance... dance... dance,' is laughably bad.
The music meanwhile, is another limp linn concoction thickened up with the same synth fills that permeate the majority of the album. There is absolutely no sense of energy, innovation, tension or even a hint of lyrical aptitude. Strip away the anemic lyrics and all you'd be left with is a redundant piece of plastic music with a capable little guitar break in the middle. No hard feelings.

"dance for me" is the lone stand-out track for me in the whole album. it more or less does the same thing that "lolita" or "chelsea rodgers" did in recent times: it's like the lone "don't think too much, just boogie" cut. that, and i find the song sorta funny in a way. i would make up a drawing/comic with different doodles for each verse and post it here...but i ain't trying to get sued for merely using the lyrics.
let us give thanks for the jiggles we are about to receive...

hell, "sexy dancer" more or less said the same thing...that, and the lyrics were much, much dumber and basic. still, the song is/was the jam. "dance for me" is in the same vein, just a different decade and a different swagger. edit...haaaaalle-loo-juhhhhh! [Edited 3/26/09 12:02pm]

You must of been one of those teenagers who when someone said they liked something, you just HAD to comment negatively. You probably just don't go with anyone and lead a sad life. All this i can see from your ridiculous post that has absolutely no background to it. SOTT without the words would be a boring track to... [Edited 3/26/09 13:20pm]
